Mission:
The Enemy Within: Lying in Wait
Location: THE RHOMBUS!!!!!
ON
Vance re-materialized at grid 9-2, subjunction 12. This area would provide her the necessary access to perform her function on the vessel. She began by sending out instructions to the drones to begin preparations for departure.
In moments a purple hue filled the corridors as the vessel began to power up. Soon after a violent shock was sent through the entire vessel as it took flight from it's resting location. Slowly it ascended from the surface.
Helga hurried up beside her to observe the departure. "The other drones are on board."
Vance did not reply as she had already been aware of the presence of additional drones.
[Calypso Bridge]
"Captain, something is coming from the planet. It's some kind of ship."
Sam had just emerged from her Ready Room. "Identification?"
"Unsure. It's not like anything in the database. It's oddly shaped. Like a ... rhombus, ma'am."
"On screen."
Tallas looked up from her station. Her eyes moved to the view screen as the image of the Rhombus appeared. "Whoa." She said softly as she stared at it for a while before regaining herself and began to work at her console. She tapped at the console, capturing a photo of the craft and then began a large search through the Intel and standard Federation database. "Captain, The Starfleet Intelligence has no record of this thing and that database combines not only Starfleet, but all craft information from Federation allied worlds and encounters."
"Engineering, get us out of here." Sam wasn't going to leave her crew behind, but right now she needed distance between the Calypso and the Borg ship. Time for reinforcements and time to find out how to circumvent Vance.
[Borg Ship]
Vance initiated the communications protocol contacting the federation vessel.
"Captain, we have a communication from the ship."
Sam sat up in her seat, knowing what she would see and not wanting to see it. "On screen."
The image of Vance filled the screen of the Calypso; however, her appearance was not of the Calypso's executive officer. Her left cheek, eyebrow and some parts of her neck had now been covered in Borg implants, her left eye was now replaced by an ocular implant which turned the color from it's normal brown to a sky blue. Her skin was now the pale hue of a typical Borg and her face exhibited no emotion.
"Federation vessel. Lower your shields and prepare for assimilation. Your tactical capabilities are insufficient in combatting this vessel. Any attempts to flee or engage this vessel will result in unnecessary personnel casualties to your vessel. Your culture will adapt to service us."
Vance paused and focused on Sam. "We promise Sam, this won't hurt one bit."
Sam glared at Vance for several seconds. "Alex, not in this life or the next. We defeated the Borg once, we will do so again. Starting with you." She glanced at tactical. "All weapons fire. Get us out of here."
Tallas looked up from her console at the view screen. "Borg?" She added softly, in an almost horrified tone. She heard a lot about the Borg. Been involved in training simulations. Even, watched the sensor logs of the battle of Wolf 359, but to physically be involved in a Borg encounter scared her to no end.
"As you wish." Vance replied coldly.
Vance was unfazed by the federation vessel's foolish Commanding Officer as the weaponry was not damaging the vessel significantly. She commanded the vessel to return fire upon the fleeing federation vessel.
"Evasive pattern. Blind their sensors." She turned to Tallas. "Activate York program "fairy dust." It'll temporarily blind their sensors."
She knew she couldn't win in a head-to-head battle. But if she had some time, she could find a weakness. She signaled to cut communications. "Lizzie, scan the ship. Find any anomaly, any weakness, anything that differs from what we know of Borg ships." There had to be something. The thing had been under the sand for who knows how long. There had to be something. All she needed was time.
"Leo, get a team ready to board the Borg ship."
Leo looked up from the Bridge Marine console he had gotten to just moments before. Looking between Vance and Sam, he paled just a bit. "Aye Ma'am," Leo said pointing to a security officer to take his spot. "I'll see what I can do for that one." Turning to the right he walked off the bridge and into the turbolift. Shaking his head slightly, Leo ordered the lift down to his men.
-Marine Hall-
Looking down at the phase rifle he had in his hands, Leo sighed slightly. This wasn't going to be easy for any of them. Those were some of their own men in that new Borg... thingy; as one Sergeant had put it. "Alright men, you know what we have to do. This is a ship board operation and there's going to be men and women that we know, Marines, and fleeties. They know our tactics, so were not going to use those. Just listen to my orders, do what I say, and we'll all make it home alive."
[Bridge]
"Fairy What?" Tallas said as the voice of the Captain brought her back from fears of being assimilated. "Fairy Dust... Right." She started to hit away at the console, starting up the program. "Initiating Fairy Dust program." She said allowed, his voice still full with the fear of the Borg.
"It'll be a cold day in hell before I'm assimilated." Malcolm said as he walked over to the weapons locker and grabbed some phasers and began to distribute them to the bridge crew. "Commodore." He said handing one to her then fastening one on his hip himself.
Sam took it with a nod. "Thanks." She hoped they wouldn't need it. "Change the phase frequency. You'll get in a few shots before they adapt."
Malcolm nodded in agreement and set his phaser to a rotating frequency. "Now we wait." He said apprehensively glancing at the others on the bridge 'good thing I got here when I did, counseling is definitely gonna be needed after this' he thought
The Fairy Dust program kicked in. Using the deflector dish, it created a sensor-jamming "dust" that would temporarily blind the Borg ship. Long enough, Sam hoped, to get them a little distance away and give them time to find a way to defeat Vance.
