508 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: The Enemy Within: Lying in Wait
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Present

BYMalcolm hated going to the doctor when he was a child and he still hated it today but as regulation required he had to report to the Chief Medical officer for a physical to make sure everything was working properly.

He stood outside of Sickbay for a moment before exhaling and entering. To his surprise there was no one on any of the bio beds which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. He glanced into the office nearby and saw no one inside so rather than call out for someone he just took a seat in the office's chair and waited patiently for someone to arrive.

Doctor Bowen entered her office with a PADD in her hand, reading the latest medical news from Starfleet, not expecting someone to be there. "Can I help you?" She frowned as she came around her desk to look at the man sitting in chair that was consider the guest chair.

Malcolm remained sitting"Lieutenant Malcolm Trans or Hoffman which ever you wanna call me Trans is my simbiate given name. I'm here for my routine groping erm I mean physical." he said with a chuckle.

"Nice to meet you, Lieutenant. Simbiate?"

"Well the spots aren't decorative, I'm a trill, a joined one at that. The symbiont is that slug looking thing they put in us that shares the memories of the passed hosts."

"Oh, that's right...a symbiont. We need to step outside my office and pick an empty bed to do the physical," the doctor said.

"Lead the way." Malcolm said getting up from his chair

As soon as they approached an empty bed, she picked up her daily tricorder and begin the scans. "So, when did you arrived on Calypso," she asked, watching the scans.

"I got here 3 hours ago. This was my last stop for the day before settling in." Malcolm responded trying to keep as still as he could

"3 hours ago? Wow...," she glanced at him for a second before looking at the tricorder again. "Long trip? I assume you want to get your rest before your duty begins."

"The shuttle pilot wouldn't go above warp 5 especially after I threatened to have him put him under a very strict suicide watch for not heeding my wishes, he wasn't to keen on that, so it took 14 hours from starbase 62 despite my best efforts." Malcolm said with a disappointed sigh

The doctor slightly chuckled, "Sorry to hear that. Nobody likes long rides." The instrument beeped and she looked at it. "Your physical exam is complete with no abnormalities. You do show some fatigue and I recommend that you do get some rest," she gave him a compassionate smile.

"Thanks Doc." Malcolm said as he got off the bed bearing a smile in return."is there anything else?"

"Nope...you are free to go. Welcome aboard USS Calypso, Lieutenant," the doctor said.

"Thank you doctor." Malcolm then got up and left sickbay.
