The team was cautious as they exited the turbolift near sickbay. "Melo to T'Lada."
Kara received no reply. "Melo to Major and Peters." Still no reply.
She turned to Cam. "Something's wrong."
"Alright, Delta squad will take the lead" Cameron said, motioning towards his team to move out, "Kara, stick with the Fleeties and make sure they get to sickbay"
She wasn't happy staying behind with the slower Fleeties, but nodded in agreement anyway. Might as well let Cam have some fun.
Hurrying down the hall, Cam lead Delta Squad to the doors to sickbay. After visually clearing the area, Cam turned and banged three times on the doors.
[Sickbay]
Corporal Peters was beyond frustrated. Whatever the forcefield was, he couldn't penetrate it with weapons. He couldn't even access the panel to access the forcefield.
T'Lada was at a computer console, trying to override whatever was keeping them trapped inside, with little effect.
Peters checked the bulkhead until he found the end of the forcefield and began to tap with the barrel of his rifle. Maybe that would get someone's attention.
There were three loud bangs on the doors to sickbay. The noise made Peters jump. He banged back, hoping whoever was there was friendly.
[outside sickbay]
Hearing the response, Cam tapped his combadge, "Delta lead to Sergeant Melo, there's someone alive and responsive in sickbay. What's your ETA?"
Kara looked at the Fleeties. "Less than five minutes."
She turned to the others. "Looks like we're needed."
"Go ahead," Damon said. "Private Fletcher and I will finish up here."
Kara nodded and led the others to sickbay.
When they arrived she addressed Cam. "What's up?"
"I've got a responce from someone inside sickbay. Sparky here has been trying to get the doors open" Cam reported, turning to Kara "so far with no luck. I was about to let scortch blow the doors"
"Warn the people inside first, then blow the doors," Kara agreed. She looked around the room. "There's got to be some way of warning them..."
She first tried Morse Code. Tapping out "Move back. Blowing door."
Peters response was "Shave and a haira cut."
Kara tapped "SOS. Move back. Explosives."
Peters looked at Major. "What the..."
Major listened carefully. "It's Morse Code, you idiot. They're going to blow the doors. Move back."
Peters turned to the others. "Move back, everyone! They're going to blow us out of here!"
"Alright, I want everyone back down the hall. Try and find an open room to take cover in" Cam ordered, turning to his squad, "Scortch, ease up on the bang. We only want to get the door open, understood"
"Aw, no fun Boss" Scortch said, pulling out a small shaped charge from his pack and planting it on the middle of the door, "now was it red, red, green or red, green, red"
"And he's the demo expert?" Sparky said, moving down the hall with the others.
After the charge was set, Cam and Scortch joined the others, "hold on to your fillings, this is gonna be loud" Scortch said before flipping the switch on his remote
Kara and Ronnie herded the others down the corridor and into a storage room. "Ready,"
As promised, the explosion was loud, shaking a large section of the ship. For several moments, they held their breath, waiting to see if the ship would shift. Fortunately, it didn't.
Kara and Ronnie hurried back to Cam and the others to see what happened.
Inside, everyone was as far from the main doors as they could get. The explosion caused equipment to fall to the ground and shatter.
It also scared a spider-like creature from inside a cupboard. It jumped out, landing on the face of T'Lada. She gasped and tried to pry it off. For several seconds they struggled, then she threw it against the wall and straightened, looking serenely at the others. "I am fine."
"Oh, man, no you aren't," Peters said. "That thing is UGLY." He walked over to where it landed and looked around, but there was no sign of the creature. "I think we should get you back to the ship."
T'Lada shook her head. "That will not be necessary. The creature is gone and I am fine. It would be illogical to return to the ship."
"The fact that you just got locked in sickbay would seem to dispute that" Cam said, "I'd say leaving this ship sounds like a good idea, if we blow too many doors, the ship may not take it too well"
"Agreed," Kara said, walking up behind Cam. "Lieutenant T'Lada, under the circumstances, I think it prudent for you to go back to the ship and see the doctor."
T'Lada gave Kara a cold glare. "You are not a judge of Vulcans, Staff Sergeant. Nor are you a doctor. I suggest you stick to what you were trained to do and leave Vulcanology to Vulcans."
"No disrespect, ma'am, but you just got attacked by a butt-ugly spider. You should at least have the doctor check you out," Major insisted.
Spider? Kara raised her rifle. "We already have a report that giant spider-like creatures attacked the crew after they crashed. Lieutenant, I insist that you see the doctor. Major, Peters, accompany her and make sure she doesn't get lost. If she doesn't stun her. I'll take the blame if I'm wrong." She looked sternly at the others. "That's an order."
"Yes, ma'am," the two saluted. Peters pointed his rifle at T'Lada and grinned. "Sorry, lady. Orders is orders. One false move and I shoot your bacon. The rest of you, too."
Major rolled his eyes. "Major to Calypso, three to beam up."
When they were gone, Kara turned to the others. "Any other problems we need to know about?"
Mandy didn't like the spider. Simply for the fact that it looked like a spider. She didn't like spiders. "There could be more of those things around." Mandy said, though she was barely audible.
Cam sighed, "Scortch, Spark, have a look around for that thing will you" he said, motioning to where the spider was thrown, "no prisoners, shoot to kill" Cam than turned to Kara, "is there anyone else we need to recover"
Just then all their combadges beeped. "York to away team. There's a sandstorm building outside. Get everyone to the bridgeThere's an opening that leads to a cave system. You can ride out the storm there. Don't stay on the ship. If it's dislodged from the rocks it'll sink in the sand. No heroics. York out."
Kara looked at Cam and the others. "Looks like we're bugging out." As she exited sickbay, she hit the abandon ship alert, in case anyone was still on the ship, although she doubted it.
