Mission:
The Enemy Within: Lying in Wait
Location: USS Columbia
OOC: This is the team that will explore the engineering section of the Columbia.

"For the record," Daniels muttered to Captain Raine, "I'd like to take a moment to note that our team doesn't have anyone technically assigned to security. I have to admit to feeling slightly self-conscious, wearing both a scientific tricorder, and a phaser rifle."
"Feel free to leave behind the rifle. A simple hand phaser should be all that's necessary." Damon responded. "As for security, we have a fire team with us." He pointed at the Marines.
Kara nodded. "We are more than capable of dealing with anything we encounter, Lieutenant."
"Just pointing out the regs, ma'am, sir. Lieutenant T'Lada mentioned it once. Just passing it on."
Kara looked at him for a moment, wondering what happened since they were on in the mines. He wasn't the same person now. He was -- softer.
Daniels slung his phaser rifle over his shoulder, and shrugged at Maria. "We should probably get started on the scanny things, right? Since that's what sciencey wiency people do?"
"Yes. We take the scanny wanny things and do the sciency wiencey stuff we people do."
She rolled her eyes and pulled out her phaser. "I'm ready."
Damon looked to the shuttle pilot. "Take us down Ensign."
The pilot nodded. After receiving clearance, the shuttle launched.
"Okay... let's see if I've got my shuttle controls right..." Daniels muttered. He entered several commands. "There we go. Attempting to use the Shuttle's sensors to get clearer readings at close range..." Daniels said. "Patching it in to the Calypso's feed." He added.
Maria quickly double-checked his work and sighed with relief. He'd don eit right. He wasn't going to blow up the shuttle. This time.
Kara just shook her head. "Colonel, how shall we proceed when we get planetside?"
"Logically, we shouldn't get planetside." Daniels noted. "If we stay in the shuttle, and fly about 20 feet, or so, off the ground, we should still get decent scans, and we won't have to land, unless we come across something, at which point we should notify the Calypso. Safety first, right?"
"We'll only get decent scans if it's on the rocks. Anything under the sand or in the sand gives us nothing. And we need to get on the Columbia to find out what happened. It might be worth scanning from 20 feet up, but we will still need to do a visual search." Maria looked at Daniels for a moment. "Didn't they call you Chuck Norris in the mines? And you want to stay safely on the ship?"
"But," Daniels countered, "We aren't in the mines anymore." There was a slightly sour note in his voice. "And things are different here, and now, and I don't bloody care what you think. If we can't pick it up on sensors, then the calypso can't lock onto it with a transporter beam, either. If no one else is going to think like a Security Officer, and look over the well-being of those aboard, then damn straight I'll try and do it. But from a scientific point of view, we'd be doing little more than trying to add to our data pile on the ship. How is that in any way a bad idea?"
He took a deep breath. "Fine, you know what, I can fly a bloody shuttle. Perhaps we should break up, and have a team doing close-range shuttle scans, and another, led by our intrepid Ensign Delgado do a ground search?"
Maria glared at Daniels before turning to Colonel Raine. "Your call. How do you want us to proceed?"
Jourdan who had been sitting in the aft section of the shuttle just looked up and rolled her eyes. She just sat with her legs crossed as she played with her hyper-spanner. She was the chief engineer of the fleet's flagship and she was waiting for the people on the team to make up their minds. All she wanted to do was get into that engine room and find out what happened.
The sky was clear and sunny, allowing the shuttle to land without problem on the rocks a short distance from the crashed ship.
"We land. Ensign Daniels can do a low flyover if he wants," Damon said.
Kara slung her rifle over her shoulder and made sure her knife was in place. "If the Colonel gives you the okay, Ensign, fly the shuttle at an altitude of 7 meters. I'm going to have a closer look at the Columbia."
Doc sat in the corner of the shuttle somewhat isolated he appeared to only have his med kit and tricorder
"Corpsman, you're with me. We'll need you if we run into any injured," Kara said. She still wasn't sure about the medic, but the Doctor gave him the go ahead to join the team, so she'd give him another chance.
“Aye, staff sergeant” Doc replied as he made one last check of his gear and med kit.
Kara led the group off the shuttle and had a look around the sand and rock. "Okay, you know the drill. We head to Engineering and see if we can find survivors. Stay away from the sand and don't leave the group." She looked to Colonel Raine for approval. At his nod she turned and headed out.
