Mission: The Devils Snare
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Current

ON

The first turbolift is relatively close to his quarter, but Rucinter wants to take a minitur of the deck, so he passes by the first turbolift and walks the arched corridors of USS Orion. He is constantly amazed by the grace and beauty of this ship. His first duty, as a newcomer, is to report to Commander Montgomery for his first assignment.

The corridor is crowded with busy people and he gets unnoticed, as usual. Finally, he reaches the turbolift entrance and steps in.

"Main bridge", Rucinter tells the computer waiting the destination.

After a short pause, the sound is the only thing that denotes some motion, since the gravitons embedded in all the ship's systems did their job and no motion is sense while the turbolift travels up to the main bridge.

Rucinter steps out of the turbolift into the main bridge. Everyone is busy working, so he heads directly to the Ready Room, since he noticed the captain is missing from the bridge. He touches the door panel and the familiar chime is heard. After two seconds, a voice could be hear from inside:

"Come"

The door opens and Rucinter is found inside the ready room. The door whooshes as it closes and the Cmdr. Montgomery is standing at his office.

"Ensign Glen Rucinter, reporting for duty, Sir!"

"Ah Ensign" said Montgomery with his trademark warm smile, "I didn't realize you'd come aboard, I thought you were joining us when we reached the 9th fleet?" Montgomery offered his hand as he spoke which Glen took and shook firmly.

"Well, Sir, I was eager to get aboard USS Orion, Sir" said Rucinter with a tremble in his voice. "It's my dream serving aboard a Galaxy Class starship. And when USS Oberth was en-route to your with deuterium and dilithium supplies, I did't missed the chance of getting aboard as soon as I could."

Having said that, Rucinter looked around the big office, glancing upon the right wall, where a replica of the Saturn V rocket stand erected, as it was ready for one of the historical Apollo missions lift-offs.

"Are you also historically interested in the first human space explorations, Sir?" said Rucinter while looking at the beautiful rocket for a second too long.

"Isn't anyone who pulls on that uniform?" said Montgomery glancing around the walls. "But those are still left over from my predecessor - I havn't had a change to re-do this office yet. There may be some structural bit I'll need some help from engineering with."

"Yeah, nice going Glen, couldn't find a better question to ask the Captain?" Rucinter thought, and continued:

"By all means Captain, just let us know about that"

"I will. Speaking of which, get settled in then drop by your Department Chief Lieutenant Adeyemon, and the XO when you get the chance."

"Aye aye Captain!" said Rucinter trying to stand as still as possible in front of his superior.

"That'll be all, Ensign" said Montgomery, pleased to see the young officers attention to protocol. "Dismissed"

"Understood, Sir!" said Rucinter and left the Captain's office as tense as he was when entered, although he had no logical reason to be so, since Captain Montgomery seems a really nice person, at least at this first encounter. Only when he reaches the safe heaven of the turbolift, Rucinter was able to flex his muscles and breathe deeply, preparing himself for his next encounter.
