Sam waited for an hour after the away team returned before contacting Sophia. "York to Sophia. Can I talk to you?"

"Sure. What's on your mind Captain?" Sophia asked.

"Can I meet you in your office?"

The counselor nodded even though the Captain couldn't see her. "Sure. I'll have a pot tea ready when you get here."

Sam arrived several minutes later and rang the chime on the counselor's door.

Sophia walked over and opened the door. "Ah, Captain, Welcome. Do come in."

"Thanks." Sam sat down and gave Sophia a strained smile. "Admiral Burke called me while you were on the planet. Damon left Starbase 24 six days ago on his way here. Four days ago the USS Faraday disappeared."

"Oh my. You must be really nervous then. Pour yourself a cup of tea and take a seat. My time is your time."

"Nervous doesn't cover it," Sam said. She poured herself a cup, added a generous amount of sugar and sat down. "I know he's alive, but I'm worried he's stranded somewhere. Admiral Burke said a ship was dispatched to look for the Faraday, but so far they haven't found it. I want to go look for him myself."

"An understandable reaction, but don't you think that there are other ships and other crews who might be better suited for the task?"

"No," Sam replied. "They'll follow the course the ship should have taken and give up. I won't. And I have contacts the others don't."

"I don't you that well, so I am going to just take a chance and wager that you're the type that doesn't mind me being honest." Sophia said, then took a sip of her tea. "Sure, we could do what feels right and go looking for him, but that's not what Starfleet needs from you and by extension your crew. If you take the Calypso off on a search mission, whatever else we're supposed to be doing will not get done in a timely manner. Worse still is if you take off in a runabout and try to find him all on your own. The Calypso would then be down both and XO and a CO and the entire crew would be throw out of sorts worried about both of you."

"While your point may be valid, there have been many times when a Captain went with his or her gut instinct and it proved correct?" She wasn't sure what she wanted from the counselor, but this wasn't it. "So, you think I should sit back and wait for Starfleet to give up? The first ship has already failed. How many more do I wait for? Would you sit back and wait if it were your husband who was missing?"

"Probably not, no." Sophia answered, then continued, "But I'm not a Starfleet captain with a thousand people counting on me either."

Sam wasn't convinced. And she wasn't feeling any better. She finished her tea and stood. "Not sitting back and waiting is what got me the Calypso, Counselor. I'll wait for the first ships to investigate, but if it looks like they're going to give up, I'll step in. Thank you for your advice, Lieutenant. I will take your words under consideration."

She returned her cup to the replicator and headed to her quarters.
