First Meetings: Commander Sheridan

It was all Sheridan's old partner Captain Gordon Hatcher promised and more. Deck Twenty on Jupiter Station was gutted, cleaned and rebuilt in Two days. two large glass door at the entry and a large lobby-check in station manned by Orion's newest Security. All department heads assigned had large offices with a meeting room that could hold 400. All amenities were available, even dining... John had just inspected the Engineering department suites and was walking through the main lobby.

Samantha walked onto the deck and looked around, bemused. The place was a lot larger than she expected. One of the officers indicated that she needed to come down here to check in...

Sheridan noticed her at once from the picture in her personnel file. As soon as she was given a Visitor Badge he walked over.

"Lieutenant York, how was your journey to us?"

Sam turned around and smiled. "It was uneventful. Boring, but sometimes that's a good thing,"

John smiled, "Would you care to see your offices?"

"I would like that. Although it feels a bit strange to be working on the station," she replied.

"My main concern is safety right now, being hooked to this station leaves us very vulnerable, Ah, here we are", John Swiped his card at the slider and they walked into a good sized room furnished as a lobby with a reception desks with seven smaller offices and a small conference room.

"Your Orion ID will allow you access to any room here." He continued to a set of sliders and swiped a small but well decorated office. A large hologram talk board was mounted on the wall Flanked but a pair of tall potted scrubs. "I regret there are no lab facilities here for your use, You can check the ships progress through the screen and if you have any problems with how things are being done let me know right away and we'll get it straightened out."

Sam looked around the room. "Thanks. I must admit, I'll be happy when I can get on the Orion and start setting things up." She grinned at Sheridan. "This is actually my second ship out of dry dock. I was able to see the Republic refurbished as well."

"Then your an old hand at this, York. This is my first, so please keep me out of trouble and we'll get you on board as soon as possible. Your staff will be arriving soon and as their assembled I like to meet them if possible."

"I look forward to meeting my staff. Maybe we can talk about what we want to do when we get on board," she said. "I warn you now, I'm going to want to make a lot of changes before we leave the station."

"Make those changes first, make them as quickly as possible, I have the contractors attention now. If you have any issues with them and need my assistance just let me know. Our shakedown is rolling up fast, Fleet wants us mobile. Assemble your team and if possible I would love to meet some of them if possible. I know it's hectic. Science is your Baby York, I'll get anything you need one way or another."

"What I'd really like to do is something I did on the Republic. I had the main science lab directly over the botany lab and had a 10-meter hole in the floor to allow the botanists to experiment with trees. The arboretum is for people to wander around and enjoy the trees and flowers. The botany lab is for actual experimentation. Speaking of the arboretum, is it on one deck or two?" Samantha wanted to get as much information as she could to know what sort of remodeling she wanted to get done.

"I believe it's on deck 16"

"So the arboretum is one deck only. Okay. Which deck is the main science lab -- and my office -- on?" she asked next.

John was smiling, He pointed to a ship schematic on the bulkhead. " I've got to get on now York, I'll check back on you soon."

"Yes, I looked at that before I came here. As far as I can tell, the science labs are scattered over five decks, there is no main science lab and no office for the chief science officer," Sam pointed out. "Granted, it does say the arboretum is on deck 16, but I was hoping it was a bit larger than listed. However, I find the way the labs are laid out a bit awkward."

John stopped and looked at the layout, "Yes there are A few things that need to be addressed here." The main labs needed to be moved and additional sections included.

Within Ten minutes several contractors and structural Engineers were standing at the large screen.... They would be there for a while.

Sam chuckled. "I didn't expect such rapid results. Thank you."

"That's what I'm here for, Anything else Ma'am?" Sheridan was smiling
