Orion Rules
Posted on Sat Mar 6th, 2010 @ 10:14am by Commodore Samantha York
They're now up. The rules for the USS Orion. For your convenience, they are also listed below:
Please refer to the Theta Fleet site for general rules.
SIM SPECIFIC RULES:
These rules are in flux and will change from time to time.
1. Be respectful of other players. We're all imperfect and we all make mistakes. Some of us more than others.
2. Please take extra care to use proper grammar. We don't care if it's British, American, Canadian or Australian, but please make sure your English is as correct as you can make it. Spell checkers are your friends. (We ALL make typos!)
3. Its okay for characters to have disagreements. Please don't take them out of the sim. If you have problems, the CO or XO will be happy to help mediate. Also, please don't bring real life problems into the sim.
4. NO explicit language or descriptions. Although the rating of the sim is PG-15/TV14, this does NOT mean we are R rated. This simply means that you need to be 15 or older to join this ship. For Americans, think early evening primetime TV. (Not Desperate Housewives or Saturday Night Live.)
5. Don't EVER play someone else's character without their permission. The same goes for player-specific NPCs (the ones with player names after theirs).
You can refer to another character in your post or have them walk by, etc. You just can't have them talk or act without the player's permission.
6. Have fun! We love simming. We hope you will, too! I try very hard to have something for every department to do during a mission. I am always open to suggestions.
Posting Policy
As a member of this sim you are expected to post once every two weeks. We would prefer you to post once a week when possible.
If you have a tag, please reply to it within 7 days. (I prefer that you answer them within 3 or 4 days to keep the story from stalling.)
That means, basically, you should log in to the site at least once a week. (Twice a week is preferable.) If you're a department head, I would prefer you to log in at least twice a week and post once a week. However, you are only required to post once every two weeks.
The post must be either a Mission Post or Joint Mission Post. All posts should be at least two full paragraphs long and fill a half page or more. (One page doesn't take long and gives you time to develop your idea/story.)
Please start posts with ON and end posts with OFF. Then add your sigs.
For example:
ON
Text
OFF
Ensign Thelma Lou Thudpucker
Science Officer
USS Orion
Chief Petty Officer Bo Didley (NPC)
Security Officer
USS Orion
Each individual taking place in the post should have a sig at the bottom of the post. This includes the playing character (PC) and non-playing character (NPC). This makes it easier to see exactly who was in the post.
Inactivity Policy
We understand that sometimes real life comes in the way of simming. We ourselves have a real life (I know it's hard to believe). You can go on LOA if you will be gone for two to four weeks. ELOA if you will be gone for one or two months. Occasionally we will make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
A player is considered to be inactive if he or she has gone 15 days without logging into the website, and/or 21 days without making a post/log.
I don't usually give out strikes or demerits as they aren't the most effective way to deal with inactivity.
So, if you become inactive, your character may get sick or go missing. If you still don't log in and post, you may get sick and end up in a coma. Maybe you'll be considered AWOL and demoted. Or, if you still don't log in and post, your character will either be transferred off the ship or meet with a tragic demise.
*If you have been removed from the sim because of inactivity you are more than welcome to re-apply when you have found the time to dedicate to the sim.
NPC Policy
Here on the USS Orion we encourage the creation and use of PNPCs (Player NPCs).
PNPCs give the player more to write about and it gives other crewmembers more characters to interact with. However, before you start making NPCs there are a few things that you must know.
A. Players are encouraged to create NPCs for their own departments. The CO and XO reserve the right to create up to one PNPC in each department.
B. Players creating NPCs must create a bio and picture for their NPCs to help others know more about who they’re writing with (just like you do a regular bio). They don't have to be long, but they have to be complete. (You can leave the service record blank and have a short history.)
C. Six NPCs per department ONLY. There is no reason to have more than that in your department. Yes, there are more than that on a starship, but we're talking about occasional NPCs. You can always refer to more people, just don't PLAY them and write bios for them.
D. A PNPC is a Player NPC. Or, an NPC that is only played by one player. These are marked by the players name in brackets after the NPC's name. This is usually the first or last name of the Player Character in brackets. Example: Ensign Fulana de Tal [Sam].
We want the Orion to be a fun place to make friends and have fun. The rules are meant to help us all be on the same playing field. Thanks!
