658 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: The Devils Snare
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: current

Ted sounded the chime for the XO's ready room, holding his sons' hands, and entered when bidden. He was dressed in his usual: jeans and a short sleeve shirt with boots. His motorcycle was in the cargobay. His wife had given to him for his birthday the last time they had been together and now, even though he couldn't ride it, he would never get rid of it.

The man's eyes were upon him, and he thought he should introduce himself instead of just standing there like an idiot. "Ted Turner, Commander. Your new lounge manager."

"Welcome! Who're your little friends?"

Ted smiled at the boys. "This is Petey," he indicated the older one, "And Greg." He shook the younger one's hand. Petey was curious, but Greg was being bashful. Ted direction most of his attention to the lieutenant commander, but kept an eye on his sons. "I have some things I'd like to talk to you about concerning the lounge." He took a seat in front of the desk, his sons on either side of him.

"Sure, whats one your mind?"

Ted paused, wondering where to start. "I was placed with the understanding that I would be partly responsible for crew morale, is this correct? 'Cause I brought some things with me for this purpose."

"well we do have a morale Officer on board, Warrant Officer Stark, Perhaps you could coordinate your efforts with er office. Anything to increase the general welbeing of the crew would be considered."

Ted nodded. "I just needed to know because I was told I would be helping her sometimes. Also, I have several items I'm bringing aboard that need to be cleared." He took out a padd and handed it to the other man. Among them were Romulan Alefruit, Romulan herbdraught, moonspice, Saurian Brandy, and a list of other potentially fatal substances, if taken in too strong a dose. The alefruit only needed to be cleared because it could be used to make Romulan Ale, but it was to be used for pies. The Klingon chech'tluth and warnog, however, could be very potent themselves.

"I'll check your list out but don't think the CO will go for the Alefruit as it's still a controlled substance, but I'll check."

Ted nodded. "I appreciate that. I have brought four pool tables and some dart boards that might be good for recreation in the lounge. They could be put on the second level, away from the children so part of the lounge is still kid friendly. Also, I was thinking of creating a stage to one side for violin or oboe concerts or plays that the crew wants to put on. Maybe do some redecorating with pictures of the poker dogs from the twentieth century."

Sheridan smiled, He approved of the Poker Dogs. "I see our lounge is in great hands just let me know if you need a bad actor that forgets his lines."

Ted chuckled. "I will. If I may, would it be wise to talk to Engineering about the stage and the pool tables? Or should I wait for the CO's confirmation?"

"Sure give them a call and line it up"

Turner nodded. "I appreciate that. I do have one other thing. What time does school start and what are my hours? I have to be there when my boys get out of school."

"As the lounge manager you can pretty much set your own hours as long as all your duties are completed, as you have the boys in school during the first shift that would be the best to get things done I would think"

Ted nodded. "Alright. I'll make sure I get the house ready." He stood and took the boys' hands. "So unless you have any questions for me...?"

"Thanks for your efforts Ted, I look forward to shooting some stick with you."
