A situation...

1,009 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Shades of Gray
Location: Bridge

Robert had just finished talking with Daniels, and looked up to see, if it was the CO, or XO, in the chair. He frowned, and took a deep breath.

I could really go for some tea, right about now. Robert thought to himself. He cleared his throat.

"Uh, sir, we seem to have an issue at hand." Robert said, in the direction of the command chair.

Sam looked over at Robert. Whatever it was, it was bad. "What is it, Ensign?"

Tyler cleared his throat. "Ma'am, the Acting CSO on duty is reporting an AWOL officer, and a missing civilian."

Sam had a sinking feeling in her stomach. "Who?" Although she had a good idea.

"Ma'am, Lieutenant Junior Grade Tramira Kyt was slated to be on duty 7 minutes ago. When I asked the computer to locate her, it noted that she left the ship approximately 20 minutes ago." Tyler said, clearing his throat. "The civilian woman, Lumina, is also apparently with her, according to transporter logs."

That's what she was afraid of. Kyt was far too prone to acts of violence. And Lumina? Sam had no idea what her role in all this was, but it didn't sound good. "Scan the planet for them."

"Aye, ma'am. Ensign Daniels notes that there is already a surface team looking for her, though the staff they have available are likely insufficient. May I suggest the marines assist?" Tyler said, as he played several commands into the terminal.

"As there are already Marines on the planet, please do, Ensign."

The machine beeped at him. He smacked it.

"You useless piece of canine fecal matter, of course her comm badge is on the ship. Did you really suspect otherwise?" Robert muttered softly, at it. "I said, scan the planet for Kyt's life-signs."

"There can't be that many Bajorans on the planet," Sam added dryly.

"Probably not," Leo said stepping onto the bridge. "But we can't go beaming each and every one of them up, that'll kill any reputation Starfleet has in this Sector Captain."

Robert scowled. "The scanners are having an issue. I can't seem to isolate specific genetic codes, nor even pick a Bajoran out of them. I suspect she has taken efforts to mask her life-signs, knowing her." He shook his head. "I need a cup of tea." He added, in a mutter.

Sam turned to Leo. "It looks like Kyt and our guest have returned to the planet. Any idea what they're up to?"

"If I had an idea, I'd let you know," Leo said shaking his head. "I just came up here to see if you were against Marines doing bridge watch and heard what was going on."

"Ma'am, if I may." Robert Tyler said, with a frown at the Captain. "That woman has lost much of her faith in Starfleet, and the Starfleet Marine Corps' ability to judge a situation properly, and fairly, and she was a member of the Bajoran resistance. Lumina, according to reports, is distressed that we aren't taking action against, what she describes, as a corrupt usurper government. I'm fairly certain that if we don't find her, and I mean soon, things will not go well for those currently in power."

"Then perhaps the seat of power is where we should be focusing our search." Damon chipped in. He then looked to Sam "Perhaps we should send a message to their leaders warning them of a possible assassination attempt. We should also send a security detail just in case. If it is the rulers she is after, she might think twice about killing our people in the mix."

"As much as I dislike the governor," Sam said to Damon, "you're right." She turned to Robert and Leo. "Lieutenant Taylor, contact the local authorities. Leo, send down a team to..." She had to pause before continuing. "protect the governor. Take Lieutenant Wolfe with you. WHile you're there, see if you can find out any information on this alleged coup."

She turned to her XO. "Damon, is there anything else you'd recommend?"

Damon shook his head. "Until we know more the only option is to sit on our hands."

"Do you want me to send the team, or lead the team Captain? Because I can do either one, its not going to bother me either way." Looking at the Security Ensign he chuckled. "I don't think your CO is going to care much if my men are there, so I'm going to steal some of your fast responders if thats alright."

Tyler frowned at the man. "Daniels is already hosting a search party." Tyler said. "As for fast responders, I'm afraid we've been spread a bit thin."

"Daniels can lead one search. I'd like Damon to lead the other," Sam said. "Take some Marines. Leo, I'm sorry, but you'll have to help coordinate efforts from here for now."

"Best of luck, Commander." Tyler said, with a nod. "I hope, very sincerely, that I am wrong."

"As do I Ensign. With Kyt it's best to err on the side of caution." Damon said mimicking the mans gesture. He opened a link to the Marine barracks. "Damon to..." He paused mid sentence as he realised his error. He then looked to the Marine commanding officer. "Sorry Leo, old habit. Have your team meet me in transporter room three."

Leo nodded.

(OOC: Leo's on LOA, so I added the above. If Tony still has Internet, he's welcome to add a real tag. If not, we'll go with this.)

"Keep me updated, Damon," Sam said quietly. She didn't like the idea of Damon going down to the planet with all the problems they'd experienced here; but he was the best person for the job. And the one she trusted the most. "Be careful." ~Come back alive and well, querido,~ she added telepathically.
