Samantha had sent the doctor a request to meet her in her ready room at the doctor's earliest convenience.
As there was no telling how long that would take, Sam began to fill out the daily reports while she passed the time.
Doctor Bowen had to finish up some reports after receiving a message from the Captain. She wondered if something is wrong as there was no hint in the message. She stacked the unfinished reports to the side of her desk and placed the finished ones into a file of PADDs. From there, she walked out of her office, out of sickbay towards the turbolift.
"Bridge", Leanne called out inside the turbolift. The floor moved without any vibrations for awhile. The doors opened and she stepped onto the bridge.
At the door of the Captain's Ready Room, she hit the chime button and waited.
"Come in," Sam called.
After she heard the Captain, she walked in and stood attention. She searched the Captain's face, hoping to find clues as to why she was called down here. No emergency or medical need..., Leanne thought. "Captain...hello."
"Hello, Doctor Bowen. Have a seat. How are things going in the medical department?"
Doctor Bowen nodded and took a seat on the sofa instead of the chair near the desk. She hoped at the cushions would provide some comfort. "Good. Just good. Nearly caught up with my reports, Captain. Is there something wrong here?"
"Nothing wrong, but I'm afraid I'm about to add to your burden," she said cryptically. Sam picked up a small box and sat next to the doctor.
Leanne frowned at her, "what do you mean to add to my burden?" She noted that the Captain changed her personality as to being her friend, sitting next to her.
Sam handed her a small box containing a hollow pip and smiled. "I'm afraid you'll have a lot more paperwork now."
Doctor Bowen sucked in air with a surprise on her face. "A promotion? I can hardly believe this is happening, Samantha!" Behind doors, she usually use first name basis without any ears around. "More paperwork," she chuckled.
"You deserve it," Sam said, her smile turning into a grin. "Get Hart to fill in for you and take the rest of the day off to celebrate."
Leanne smiled as she held the box, "Thank you. Actually, I've been thinking that we need an Assistant Chief position in sickbay and I was thinking that Doctor Hart should take that title. Could we?"
"Of course. I think he's a fine choice. You can give him the good news."
She stood up and turned to look down at the Captain with a smile, "Great. I sure will do that." Doctor Bowen removed the hollow pip out of the box and attached it to the right side of her tunic collar, next to two full pips. "This rank is going to be new to me for awhile..."
"The first few times they call you Commander is pretty strange, but then you get used to it." Sam grinned, remembering all too well what it felt like.
"I assume that will happen," she smiled as she put her hands down by her sides. "Commander Leanne Bowen...sounds like a nice ring to it." She paused for a second, "Is there going to be a celebration party?"
"I'm giving out several promotions. There will be a party to celebrate the promotions and the end of the mission. I'm working out details with the lounge manager now."
"Oh, wonderful! Well, I better not keep you as I see that you must be busy. I guess I will see you in the lounge later?" She took a deep breath, feeling the excitement.
"Definitely -- although I may move the party to the holodeck," Sam said, smiling at the doctor's excitement. "See you later."
