Ronnie had been tasked with finding out what type of vole had invaded the lounge. She'd had pet guinea pigs as a child, so handling dead vole wasn't a problem. They did, however, make her lab partner squeamish, which, to Ronnie, was a bonus.

She took DNA samples and ran them through the diagnostic computer, then ran several tests on the corpses themselves to make sure they weren't diseased. A rabid vole could lead to a serious problem.

Within minutes, the computer identified the creature as a ghezun, a cross between a vole and a capybara, or species name chaeris arvalis, originally from the planet Theit. Although many of them had found their way to other parts of the Federation via transport ships. Still, a Theit ghezun was not too bad, as long as they were confined. But when they got loose, they would get into everything and chew through practically anything.

Ronnie spent several minutes reading the information on the ghezuns, wondering if she could get one for a pet. Then, sighing, she continued on with her research.

The ghezuns were not rabid, or diseased, which was a good thing. She finished up her report and tapped her combadge. "Science to Sheridan. I've identified the vole in the lounge. They were loose ghezun. I recommend that you start an investigation to find out where they came from. We may not b out of the woods yet."
