Mission:
What Lies Beneath?
Location: Main Lounge / Storeroom
Timeline: Current

Sheridan was almost asleep sitting in the XO's chair. It was late in the watch. The op's watch officer advised him of a electrical alarm in the store room in the main lounge. "It's some kind of electrical short, Sir."
Sheridan opened his eyes regaining his composure. "Notify Engineering and have them check that out. Will it affect any critical components?"
"No sir, it's a local event affecting two forward panels. One is lighting the other is for refrigerated stores". Sheridan thought about the refrigerated stores for a few seconds, "Better get security down there just in case we have burglars getting into the booze."
Ted was coming out of the office off the main lounge when he heard something in the store room. He picked up his bat from behind the bar and came over to the store room door. He held it ready for a strike at a humanoid torso and got ready. Tapping the door controls, he saw several large bald rodents run out near his feet. Shocked, he jumped, picking his feet up as high as he could get them and started attacking the voles in earnest. He swung and missed, hitting the bulkhead below the door panel and setting off alarms.
"Sir we have a door alarm in the lounge." Sheridan stood, "Who's down there?"
"Unknown, Sir. Showing several life forms."
"Go to Yellow alert and get security down there. Seal off that section please"
Ted was attacking voles in earnest when they ran into the kitchen. They ran under the tables and Ted did probably the dumbest thing you could do: lie down and put his hand under there. "AAAARGH!!" he yelled as he got bit by three little mouths. Withdrawing his hand, he saw crimson blood cascading down his wrist. He stood up and wrapped his hand, then took a broom and began poking it under the counter at them. Then he heard someone behind him and he spun around so he was on his previously injured right leg.
Security Officers poured into the lounge.
"I understand there is a Security Issue here." Came a stern voice. "Holy he-"
"Watch yourself, Chief!" One of the ensigns noted.
Lieutenant Lorne Jaxara fell on his rear. "Whatever those are, kill them." He muttered, as he fired his phaser at the one that tripped him on his way in the door.
"Aye sir." Came a chorus of Ensigns with phasers.
Ted was ready to kill. First his lounge was in tattered, now voles. He was not happy. "Don't wreck the lounge!" he yelled. "Just kill them!"
"Look, buddy. The phasers are set to regulations. We aren't going to ruin your upholstery, and we aren't going to hurt your customers, but if you don't stop telling us how to do our' jobs, I'm just going to leave this mess for you to clean up, and just quarantine this area." Lorne said, turning, and pointing his 'annoyed' slightly crooked right index finger at Ted.
The bartender's temper went up another notch. "Whatever, just get rid of them and don't ruin anything!"
"Fire at will." Lorne said, content that the issue was resolved.
Suzette had once again been eating in the lounge. She grabbed her muffin and moved to a corner of the room to get out of the way. This was the second time she's been caught in the lounge during a firefight and she was beginning to think that coming here was a bad idea.
Lorne stubbed his toe on one of the voles. It tried to bite his foot. It ended up eating Lorne's phaser-beam. "Blasted varmint." Lorne muttered.
"You sound like a cartoon character, chief." One of the security ensigns said with a giggle.
"Can it. Can these yellow-livered varmints too!" Lorne yelled at the woman, as he fired a phaser at one of the voles, who was about to take a good chomp out of the ensign's leg.
"Sorry sir." The woman replied.
Sheridan was Pacing the bridge, "What are these things? Security report."
"I'm a security guard, not a biologist. They are targets, as far as I'm concerned." Lorne muttered. "They are almost gone."
"We need one to study. Preferably alive," Suzette replied, poling her head out from behind a wall. "And, just because you get all the ones you can see, it doesn't mean you got them all."
As she spoke, the lights in the lounge flickered and went out.
