"Like if Baba were to come home and find you in one of my shirts she promised once she was put down she will sleep if I were to be a backrest during a holo just let a Loving Mother allow me to do some pampering?"
She blinked at him. Her concentration was a little split, nursing took attention after all, and she wasn't sure she had followed the conversation. "Pampering?" she echoed, clearly taken off guard.
"Little massage and just relaxing you after a day of being super mother, run you a bath and just let you soak and enjoy yourself." He chuckled; he was infamous for not liking tensions about him so the more relaxed his wife is, and he gets that, he will calm as well. "Just show my wife she is adored?" He shrugged.
She shifted the baby just enough to reach up with one hand and push her hair out of her face. The one armed hold made Aurea squirm and protest, so Nhallia quickly resumed holding her with both hands. "And... Aurea agreed to all that?"
"I said it with a smile and she grinned." He winked. "I took that as an affirmative, you can ask her yourself if you like?" He had an expression of almost innocence. "She wants you to be happy because when you are relaxed so is her Baba."
Nhallia blinked up at him, clearly confused and startled by the observation. As far as she knew she *was* happy and relaxed. Wasn't she?
"You jump more when the baby cries like you are on 24 Red Alert." He chuckled. "You didn't jump that much when you were on duty."
She looked confused for a moment. "Aurea's more important now. And she needs me. She needs to know I'm here, that I'll always be here," she said, not thinking much about her words or quite how much they said, as she switched Aurea to the other side. She looked into her daughter's eyes and smiled reassuringly.
Newmark sat on the bed and cupped her cheek while looking deeply into her eyes. "Nhallia, she has no reason to even consider you will not be there for her." He said softly. "Now you might let me do some more so she does not think being a Doctor will keep 'Me' away from her." He winked. "One look in your face when you hold her will keep Aurea from ever conceiving of her Mother not being in her life; any one can see she is a light in you. You do not have to prove it by being there every second." He chuckled and leaned in to kiss her lightly. "If she sees us being 'ourselves' she will get more of a feeling of Family than if just Mommie takes care of all her needs; you know, share the love?"
"What do you mean?" she asked, instinctively leaning into the hand still caressing her cheek. It was an entirely unconscious movement, pure reaction to his touch and the way it comforted and reassured her.
"When was last time you wanted a massage; there are still one hundred fifty plus places I have not introduced you to as yet." He smiled. "You used to keep count... how many are there either way?" He asked with a sly grin.
She thought for a moment. "By my count you've shown me... fifty-three," she said after she added them up in her head. "And the last time you gave me a massage was..." she stopped and pressed her lips together as she thought.
Nhallia shifted Aurea up to her shoulder and started rubbing the baby's back to burp her. It had been before Aurea was born, she finally decided, but didn't say that out loud. And of course towards the end of the pregnancy, those prenatal massages had not exactly been focused on him showing her any more of the erogenous zones to be found on the human female, even if he did have 150 to go.
She dropped her gaze away from Verdeath and down to the top of Aurea's head, uncomfortable and embarrassed at the realization.
"I understand..." he moved to make eye contact. "You are a good mother and trying to prove to yourself to yourself through Aurea." He nodded and smiled. "I get that, and if you have not realized it, it is the little things; include her in our life, do not make the baby your new reason for living." He was sincere. "There is no way either of us have any doubt you love her and would do anything for her." He nodded again.
"Of course I would!" Nhallia insisted. "And so would you! How could we not, she's our daughter! Are you telling me that she's not going to be your first priority when she needs you?" she asked, unable to believe that Baba would say such a thing.
"Yes we would, she is part of 'Us' and we are a good family." He confirmed. "There is no conception of not being there for her." He smiled. "Just need to throttle back a bit so we do not end up hovering and waiting for being needed." He hoped he was doing well?
Nhallia kept gently rubbing Aurea's back, even though she'd already apparently settled any gas she had. "But she's so tiny and helpless right now," she tried to explain, her voice quiet and small and a little scared.
Keeping eye contact, Newmark continued.
"Beloved, I am just saying when the baby is sleeping or occupied you have time to play the piano to help sooth her; you know how music can be on people. Show your doctor that beautiful voice and talent. You love your music, why not see if Aurea has an ear for it; you get to enjoy the playing and the baby learns music appreciation." He winked.
Kissing Aurea's head, Nhallia nodded but didn't say anything for a moment as she thought. It had been a long time since she'd played. She'd just been so busy with the baby...
"Do you have a few minutes more to stay with her before you go to work? Just so I can wash up quick?"
"I am not on shift." He told her. "It is my regular day off Love, take time to enjoy and I think the little Lady here and I can find a way to occupy ourselves." He grinned and winked. "Let you have some relaxing then you can show her how well you play maybe?"
"You're off today? I thought you were going to have to go in..." She gave him a little smile and slid to the edge of the bed, reaching to hand him the baby.
"They do allow me some time to myself once in a while." Accepting the baby he brought her close. "I told you she and I have a deal so go ahead and get as clean as you like." Starting to caress her back in a way with a slight bounce to get a burp that will come. "We can wait a bit for you to enjoy getting ready."
"But last night you said-" she stopped short and looked away. "Nevermind. I'll be out in a while."
"You can take a bubble bath if you like." He did not know how to tell her that the Medical gearing up was an excuse to explain why he was gone and it was to keep from another argument about her and the baby leaving him out of things, best he keep that for later. "I will tell her a story, you know Nuvian tales are not that short."
She nodded and headed to wash up, glancing back over her shoulder at the last moment to watch Baba and the Baby walk out into the main room. A little frown creased her brow. Last night she'd been lost and confused. Now she had *some* answers... but still a lot of questions...
Newmark had his daughter and the first time he felt the urge to just have his wife against him.
"My little Angel ready to hear a story?" He aswked the cooing little bundle of joy.
