915 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Food for the Gods
Location: Shuttlebay 2
Timeline: Concurrent

ON:

Never before had Johnathan had such an easy time landing a shuttle. The Calypsos computer and tractor beams had made his life so much easier. Stepping off the shuttle with his meager belongings, he stopped a passing Engineer to let him know about the Dampeners beginning to fail in the shuttle. He felt that the answer he’d received was a bit of a blow off, but he could tell that people were busy and he let it slide. Keeping his head down, he walked briskly out of the bay, slipping between two people before continuing on his way. He took maybe a dozen more steps before stopping completely and looking around like a lost puppy dog.

“Great,” he muttered. “I forgot to ask where I was going.”

A short latina was coming down the corridor from a smaller shuttle bay and saw a man in green looking like he didn't know where to go. "Hola, can I help you find something?"

The turbo lifts are quick; except when one is tardy, Jhosa moved with controlled haste; she had much practice in her skirted uniform as it was one that allow her not to feel 'unisex' and just a part of crew numbers. She had the time for the New Marine Officer arrivial and still she did not get there when the shuttle landed.

Noting the Pilot that was near the Officer Jhosa made her way to them and bow slightly.

"Hello Lieutenant Askard, I am Lt. JG Jhosa." The Deltan female introduced herself. "Deputy Chief of Communications; with most of the Senior Staff involved with an Away Mission I have come to greet you and see you are shown where you must go for the Check in."

As Johnathan was about to reply, a Deltan walked up and started talking. His eyes glancing between the two, before nodding to the Hispanic woman and addressing the Deltan. “That’s better than me wandering the ship,” Johnathan said with a smile and a chuckle. “So can I be read in while we go for check in or do I need to wait for my direct CO? I’m sure he’ll want to meet his new PL if at all possible.”

Juanita laughed softly. "You'll definitely need to report to him. He hasn't been around long. But you can go see the commodore, if you wish." She nodded to Jhosa. "She's in ops. She knows the bridge better than I do."

“No need to disrupt a Commodore,” Johnathan said quickly, both of his hands going up in front of him. “If someone will just point me to my Section Chief I’ll be on my way.” Wincing, he bent down and collected his belongings that had dropped from the small bag, about the size of an ammo pouch for loose ammunition. “Or both of you can escort me, it’s not a huge deal either way.”

"He's on the Marine deck," Juanita replied. "Is not far from here. I can take you."

She glanced at Jhosa. "If you do not mind?"

"I am among the more senior personnel on the bridge; the Commodore is preparing an away team." Jhosa said with a smile. "It would be apprechated if you would escort the !st Lieutenant to his Commanding Officer , I have him officially logged as arriving so the next step is the report to his section; medical and Spartacus the counselor; who is also on the away mission." She grin. "Please enjoy your time on the Calypso and I shall see you around."

"Bien." Juanita nodded to the Marine. "It's one deck down. There's a lift and a ramp. Which do you prefer?"

“Uhhh,” Johnathan said thinking. “Ramp works, I like walking.” Shrugging he looked at the doors around him. “So what’s the difference between the Calypso and other ships in the fleet?”

"The commodore moved things around. It's mostly the same layout, but she gave the Marines their own deck, and made a ramp to the shuttle bay. And she put science closer together. That's the physical stuff," Juanita began to explain as she led him to where the Marines had their shuttles. "We also spend more time exploring." She entered a doorway where a shuttle and two drip ships were suspended from the ceiling. On one side was an open ramp leading down. "Over here. This leads to the Marine deck."

“So wait a minute, this is the Commodore's ship?” Johnathan was amused at the thought of serving under such a senior officer. “And she willingly goes on excursions with the crew. I’m sure everyone isn’t ok with that.”

"No, but she doesn't listen to the brass. Rumors say she didn't want the promotion, either. She stays away from earth as much as she can." Juanita grinned. "If you believe gossip."

At the bottom of the ramp she waved her hand. "Bienvenidos a Marine Country. I have no idea where you go from here."

“Muchos Gracias, I’m sure I can find my way to the CO and S1 for registration. I’m sure I’ll be seeing you around.” Bowing slightly he started walking down the row of doors checking each one quickly before moving on to the next.

"Hasta luego," she replied, turning and heading back up the ramp.
