“A-Ten-Shun!” Ring our through the small shuttlebay on the U.S.S. San Diego. “Per the order of the Marine Corps Commandant and Starfleet Second Lieutenant Johnathan Askard is here by promoted to First Lieutenant, with all rights and privileges of the rank. As it stands, Lieutenant Askard has been reassigned to the U.S.S. Calypso following several commendations and persuant to his wishes.” Marine Captain Thomas Alvarado said beaming. “May god have mercy on their souls.” There was a hearty laugh from the small company aboard the ship, several of which Johnathan had served with since completing his schooling. There were calls for a speech but the Captain raised his hands. “As the good Lieutenant disembarks, we must remember the sacrifices of kith and crew that we’ve all had to deal with, and we pray he doesn’t have to deal with this again.”
The trip into the shuttle pod was solemn as everyone took a moment of silence, something the San Diego was known for. They took care of their own, and remembered the fallen even when something happy would happen. A part of Johnathan was glad to be leaving such a sad place.
Present Day
Johnathan has just finished changing into a fresh uniform as he felt the small lurch of his shuttle dropping out of warp. He’d noticed that the inertial dampeners had been working at a subpar state, but didn’t have the acumen to attempt a repair half way through his travel. Expecting to see a beautiful planet or quasar or something of the like, Johnathan took a visible step back at the sight of the planet below him. This, this wasn’t right. It almost reminded him of his home, and the destruction that the Empire would visit upon any who refused to bend the knee.
“I really hope this is the correct place,” Johnathan muttered as he scanned the area for any particles that didn’t match what he had been living in since he had been a teenager. Sighing in relief, he began looking for the ship that he was supposed to be docking on so his new path could start. Reaching up absentmindedly, Johnathan felt the pip he had just been given. “It’s been a journey, but now it’s time to prove who you really are.” Tapping a couple of commands, he heard a connection open.
“U.S.S. Calypso, this is the Shuttlepod Athena. Permission to board.”
“Permission granted. Make your heading 149 Point 3 and you can’t miss us. Welcome aboard Shuttle Pod Athena.”
