As many considers a vacation on Starbase 109, Dwight considers it a business of passing through. He was on his way to getting a shuttlecraft to take him to his new assigned starship after receiving his transfer orders to leave the USS Pathfinder to begin his duty as a Chief Medical Officer on USS Calypso, a Galaxy Class Starship. He is already a CMO before the changing of assigned ship.
As soon as he was transferred over, he grabbed his duffel bag and walked out, following a few crewmembers through the cargo bay of Calypso. The information on the PADD in his hand gave him directions to his quarters as well as the floor plan to where things are on this large ship, even Sickbay and the lounge.
In civilian clothes, he put away his stuff and head out of his quarters to explore some parts of the ship as he was heading straight to the turbolift. Dwight was planning to meet the Captain of the ship after he has read the information a few hours ago on the long ride in the shuttlecraft, fighting boredom. He wanted the details of who he will be dealing with.
As soon as he approached the Commodore's ready room from the turbolift, he nodded at a man who had passed him after he left the closed doors. Seeing the button, he chimed it.
Sam set down the PADD she was reading. "{Come in." So far she'd learned nothing new about the colony or the pyramid.
The doors opened and Dwight strides in and stood at attention with his arms behind his back, holding the PADD in his right hand. He observed the Commodore at her desk who appears to be very busy. "Lieutenant Dwight McCabe reporting to a new assignment as Chief Medical Officer. I'm Doctor McCabe, ma'am," his speech with a hint of an Irish accent.
"Welcome aboard, doctor," Sam said, standing to greet the new arrival. "Please, have a seat and tell me about yourself."
"Thank you, Commodore." He turned to glance behind him before sitting in a chair. "I'm from Dublin, Ireland on Earth. Served on McCoy, Hayawatha, and Pathfinder plus a starbase. As ye can see on my record that I have served as a CMO on the last ship. I hear ye were missing a head doctor on this ship, ma'am".
"I was, before you arrived," Sam said with a smile.
Her smile appeared to make him at ease and he returned the smile back to her. "I will make medical more satisfying to the crew members of Calypso as I have good bedside manners. Not many doctors do like to go on away missions a lot but I have volunteered a lot as I love to see new places and new people or aliens...just so ye know." He paused as he eyed her rank pip on her collar. "I've never met anyone with a Commodore rank that runs a ship as the Captain, ma'am. Ye must be very distinguished."
Sam laughed. "Stubborn, more like. I never sought command. This ship was offered to me a decade ago. As for away teams, I generally send someone from medical, so you'll be welcome."
He nodded with satisfaction, rubbing his chin for less than a minute. "That's good to know. Also, I heard that ye are a part Betazoid by my understanding of your bio in the medical file. It is part of my job as a physician to know the commanding officer once I step foot on this ship. Knowing the crew members will take me time to get to know. I assume you have telepath abilities...?"
"I do." she replied, smiling. "It can be helpful at times. As for the crew, it is my hope you will have plenty of time to get to know them. Is there anything you need from me?"
He nodded. “I am sure ye must be busy and I am stopping in to report myself. At least we half strangers but that will change in time. So,” he rose from a chair. “Thanks for your time, Commodore. I need to get my stuff unpacked. May I be excused?”
"I'm not that busy, but I don't want to detain you," Sam said. "I'm sure you are eager to see sickbay and get settled in. If you haven't received your quarters assignment, talk to Apu. I'm sure he's got something ready for you."
“Yes”, Dwight said, trying to contain the excitement of seeing the sickbay. “Definitely. Thanks for your time,” he smiled. “May this ship bring me a good journey and friends.”
Sam smiled. "I hope so, too. I look forward to seeing how you settle in."
"Thanks, Commodore," he said.
