"Of course." Jayna tapped her combadge and had a quick conversation with the intel ship. A moment later, the piece of shrapnel dematerialized. "He said there's an 82.13% chance of finding more pieces."

Sam nodded. "Good. Let's keep looking."

[NEW]

Their tricorders weren't doing a very good job of picking up pieces of the explosive device. And yet, as they poked through piles of debris, they found more pieces.

Sam tapped her combadge. "York to Calypso."

"Calypso here."

"Scan the area of the explosion for dampening fields." It made sense that something was keeping them from finding pieces of the explosive. It would have kept it from being detected before it went off as well.

"Affirmative. The center of the radius is five meters from you at 32 degrees."

"Thank you. York out." Sam turned to Jayna. "Let's see what is making our job more difficult."

Gink was not used to being utilized on short notice; he was more the type who liked his laboratory and catalogs. It was far simpler to categorize things and then seek out the origins for the best possible facts than trudging about on the surface of Vulcan at the crime scene; he was an alternate. Mind you Gink did not mind the heat; it was the sand that contaminates the evidence. The fact he had to wear a long duster rather than his pristine lab coat was another reason he could have been at the lab processing this. Why had his name come up anyway, he was more about the business of processing the evidence.

Chief Gink." The Lieutenant called over his shoulder, a hue-mon that always looked down upon Gink 's professional choices. "You better get some spring in that step we are near the scene."

Just because Gink did not like the brutality of Most Security Work they often pass him off 'as a waste of personnel' as he is not required to guard anything really. It seemed that cataloging all the evidence or processing it took up most of his shift, even petty crimes have evidence to process.

He had the tricorder and the Crime satchel over hsi shoulder, being shorter than the average Human he had to push himself a bit. Also his Ferengi heritage being a Federation Business of his Parents allowed him citizenship and a chance to go to the Academy easier with less paperwork. As he also did not have a business the Grand Nagus left him alone.

"You are our best Criminalist." The fellow Security Officer said; the fact they both out ranked him was annoying as he had to literally listen to them both.

"Thank you sir." Ever the pleasant demeanor to Hue-mons as they were his bosses.

Coming to the plaza; still roped off, Gink passed easier under the barrier than having to stoop like his fellow security guards. It was a minor victory and he took it. He wore a hat and shades to cover his head from the blistering sun.

The scene was not as grizzly as it was with the bodies, he had gone over the scans from medical personnel ; viewed the Crime Scene lay-out from all angles to know the blast radius and the placement of victims. The fact security still used chalk like outlines showed that when something works it is not replaced as a method.

Taking out his own Tricorder he popped the probe deftly into his hand and began probing; yet it was redundant but he was methodical on his worst day. This one in the heat and still the slight stench of the blood and bodies was ripe in the heat to his sensitive nose.

Gink was making a wide angle circle to verify what he already knew and started to work his way inward. Stopping at the two o'clock position he turned outward, this is the telemetry of the signal that detonated the charge from all accounts and evidence. The only unobstructed angle farther than the perimeter of structures surrounding the plaza. Here is also where the culprit would have the best line of sight and a place outside the 'Panic Zone' and able to fade away afterward. The first seconds after detonation would be the best cover to escape. The initial panic would draw attention well away from the assassin.

Turning the other direction he took the angle of probable transmission and started walking towards the downward angle of the transmission, as a higher vantage would give a better signal and observation. Taking the rough 'guesstimate' he was closing in on the best area for the device when his Tricorder was a bit wacky.

"Darn things, cheap lowest bidding programmer of the replicators; inferior maintenance technician..." He cursed the fine calibration he prided himself upon of his equipment , if h were a hue-mon he would have hit it with a fist. "Oh..." He checked the polarization of the ambient area. "Dampening field. I take back the lousy technician remark, still not like the programmers over paid pompous lazy employees that like to play games on company time and do minimal of work." He said to himself.

Taking the Padd out after replacing the Tricorder he checked the scans of the 'Blast radius' this would give him the best estimations of device size by the energy expended and the density of the atmosphere at the time shortly after the explosion would have to do and the injury accounting gave the basic trajectories of debris. with all of this information he could reverse angle the readings and begin to 'sift' through the surrounding.

Gink switched to his Tricroder again and put on a unidirectional fine focus probe setting, he might have to get on his knees but most likely just stoop as a Ferengi he was closer to the ground than his fellow Security personnel. He had switched the PADD micro map to the tricorder and the fragment estimated angles. This allowed him to get the reverse and hoped to find bomb parts.

Heading to the site he approached the Commodore; he did not think of the sight he projected, a Ferengi in a hat and duster using a tricorder. He looked up as he neared and caught himself.

"Hello Commodore York." He removed the hat. "I hope not to intrude I am Chief Warrant Officer Gink, humble Criminalist sent to help with the investigation."

"Hello, Chief Warrant Officer," Sam replied. "I heard you would be joining us."

Just then there was another explosion.
