Mission:
Prelude: Blowing away the Cobwebs
Location: Jupiter Station - Deck 20 - Engineering Aroa
Timeline: Curent
Alex stared up from her desk at the contractor standing before her. Shed just put on the skirt variant uniform and felt more like herself. She'd had a chance to really study the specs and refits, and she had a few concerns that she wanted to talk over with the contractors.
"Nice to meet you Mr. Hoy. I'm Lieutenant Adeyemon, Chief Engineer aboard the USS Orion." She said. Her usual light smile showing on her face. She'd always been a very chipper and happy person, and could always be counted on to have her head in the clouds. The problem for her enemies was, they didn't know she could come down. Most people viewed her light heartedness as a weakness and tried to walk over her.
"Good morning." The gentleman said, not making eye contact. Every outward sighn he gave said he would care very little about anything she'd have to say.
"I was looking over the refit specs on propulsion systems, and I found a discrpancy." She handed him the PADD.
He looked it over, then looked back at her grin. "Problem?"
"You'll see that warp intermix stability is down to 65%"
"That is because our refit of the EPS conduits means that some of the redundant power system isolations had to be scapped." He replied as if there was no problem.
"So i've read. This means that only 65% of our power systems have to be damaged before a cascade effect could potentially cause a warp core breach." Her small grin never wavered.
"It can't be avoided. This system is better." He dropped the PADD on her desk and turned to leave.
The corners of her lips slid down slowly, almost as if they floaded downward. "Excuse me...Hey!"
He turned. "I hardly have time to debate-"
"It's not a debate, I'm telling you." She stood from her desk. "You will NOT risk the safety and lives of the men, women, and children aboard the Orion for the sake of efficiency.....those specs will be back at 96% or I will advice my commanding officer to find someone else to compleate this job. I will advise starfleet if necissary."
"Fixing that now will set us back an entire week." He said with bite.
"I couldn't care less....You will document every minor detail of your refits and you will hand them all to me. If I don't like them, You will fix them. There will be no flaws, no dangers, and no kinks. Make no mistake, Mr. Hoy, I'm perfectly capable of leading a starfleet refit team, and I will if it comes to that. Tell your teams that..Do I make myself perfectly clear?"
He hesitated, noting the extreame change in her personality. "Yes ma'am.."
She folded her hands with a sigh. "Do you know what I wanted to be before I decided to join starfleet?"
"A dentist?" He replied. "You certainly love to pull teeth."
She resisted the erge to smile. She'd learned that even the most simple moments were reasons to be happy. "No. An elementary school teacher."
"It fits you too I guess." Hoy said.
"I didn't follow through because I decided to babysit a few times. They were two...evil twins. It was at that momment I realized my biggest pet peave...repeating myself when the person I'm speaking to heard me the first time. I'm slow to anger and I'm very good at hiding how quick I am to irritation. I garentee you that if I have to sit here and write a formal complaint about the refits to the first officer..I will be very...very unhappy." What had once been a smile, was now a very serious yet beautiful frown.
"I understand." He respected her alot more now. Clearly, she was not as big a push over as he origionally imagined.
She raised an eyebrow almost as though he'd said something insulting, but it was only that she was more than tired of his presence. "Get the hell out of my office.."
