ON:
Annie Dixon meeped to herself as she walked as fast as she could through Main Engineering. She held her head down, hoping to hide from everyone. A stack of PADDs were clutched haphazardly to her chest. she glanced upwards long enough to see the open door to the CEO's office. She allowed herself a breath of relief. Sanctuary was so close...
"Lieutenant?"
Annie's expression fell as she looked longingly at the open office door, a mere two feet away. She could have just run in and ignore the voice, but she knew that wouldn't work. The owner would have just followed her. She turned to the inquirer, "Y- yes?" she replied, forgetting about the tangle of PADDs she still barely held.
The Andorian's antennae twitched as he regarded the lieutenant's burden. "You should probably put those down before you drop them." He pointed at them.
"Hm?" she began before glancing down to where he was pointing. "Oh, um. Yes." Her cheeks colored slightly. She turned a bit abruptly and disappeared into the office, an echoing clatter almost immediately followed. "Okay, I'm okay!" she practically shouted.
Athorias simply crossed his arms as he waited. Annie arranged the PADDs on the desk, picking up the ones that had fallen. She stared at the sterile and spartan office. Her office, she had to force herself to consider. She still felt it was T'Pral's, even if the Vulcan had given the department to her during her vacation. It was still weird to be the assistant, nevermind Chief! After taking a moment to gather her courage, Annie stepped out of the office and faced PO1 Th'zivis. "What, er, what do you need?"
The Andorian uncrossed his arms and his antennae twitched again. "We need a decision, ma'am," he said leading her to the "pool table" where PO1 Lanum was leaning.
Ma'am. Annie didn't think she'd ever get used to that. She followed Athorias automatically, curious to what the two technicians were working on.
"Now that the Core is shut down," Athorias began, "we are performing a more extensive overhaul and upgrade per Lieutenant T'Pral's request."
Annie nodded as her attention was drawn to one of the displays showing the current state of their progress. The Vulcan had briefed her on the upgrade plan, assuring her that it would be largely hands-off, taken care of by the technicians. The progress appeared to be going well, ahead of schedule so far. "So..." she dangled.
PO Jemek Lanum grunted as he pushed himself to a standing position. "The antimatter pump assemblies must be replaced. In order to do so, we need to empty the holding tanks and enter them ourselves." He handed Annie a PADD. "My plan would be quicker, Athorias's would be slower."
"But my plan is safer," the Andorian added.
Annie bit her lip as she read over the two proposals. In the end, they both would get the job done. But Athorias was right. Jemek's plan had a higher chance for a significant accident. Following her perusal, she glanced up to see both technicians looking at her expectantly. She glanced back and forth between them, hoping that her decision didn't alienate the "loser."
"We are ahead of schedule. We have time to take the safer route." She put the PADD down and prepared for the worst.
"Aye ma'am," they both said and got to work. The yelling and complaints didn't happen, and she was kind of shocked. Apparently they couldn't agree between the two of them and needed her to break the stalemate. If only all decisions were that easy, though she wouldn't hold her breath. Annie then left the pool table to hide in the office with her PADDs.
