Mission:
Shadow Dance
Location: Jenefran Palace
Timeline: Day 2 Afternoon/Evening
BEFORE:
"Well," he said. "We should probably get cracking. Mister Rroden, is there somewhere these officers can work?"
Rroden mentally ran through the rooms in the palace. "There is one not far from there you can use," he said. "If you will follow me..."
NOW:
The Starfleet officers had been shown to a small conference room where they could work. Ensign Sirel had been reviewing security footage and Lieutenant T'Pral had been going over some of the technological aspects of the incident.
"So," Arnon said to his fellow officers. "Have you discovered anything helpful?"
"Inconclusive," T'Pral said, a faint frown appearing then disappearing on her features. "The affected cameras exhibit an anomaly that unaffected cameras do not. But I cannot determine whether it is from the degaussing procedure, or a deliberately localized EMP or similar." She glanced to the others, "The Calypso facilities would be more capable in differentiating the residual energy waveforms."
"Why can't we call the Calypso for help?" Arnon asked.
"It is not simply a matter of asking for help," T'Pral explained. "My tricorder detected the anomaly. However, the differences are within tolerance of the device. In order to perform a detailed scan and analysis, they would need to be brought to the Calypso's engineering labs. To do that, I would require approval from the Jenefran security personnel. Something I was about to do when you queried for our progress." Her eyes turned to Rroden.
He blinked, unsure what to make of the request. "I will have to ask the Council." Rroden stood. "If you will excuse me, I will see what they say on the subject." He walked out of the room, shaking his head at the very odd request.
Satisfied that her request would be considered, T'Pral turned to the others. "Has the review of the security recordings yielded any conclusions?"
"Nothing yet."
Rroden returned several minutes later. "Yes, you may look, but only with supervision. It is not a matter of trust," he hurriedly assured them, "More that you are an unknown entity and this is a...delicate matter."
T'Pral nodded once in understanding. "Indeed. Prepare whom you wish, we shall leave immediately. I simply need to coordinate with the Calypso." She turned away from Rroden and tapped her commbadge, speaking into thin air, "T'Pral to Calypso."
"Calypso here."
T'Pral continued, "I require transport to the Calypso to continue the investigation. I will be bringing a few pieces of equipment, as well as some Jenefrans for coordination purposes, assuming authorization to do so. Security is up to that department." She began staging the cameras in a transporter pattern and turned to Rroden, "Whomever is coming should stand here and we will beam up to the ship."
He glanced at a young Jenefran. "Tell the council I will be joining Starfleet."
The young man nodded and went out the door.
When he was gone, Rroden went to the spot indicated by T'Pral. "I will accompany you."
"Transporters ready on your command," came the reply from the Calypso.
T'Pral nodded once in reply, a somewhat illogical habit picked up from humans. She saw Rroden in place and stood tall by his side. Noting Lieutenant Barak joining them, she called the Calypso again, "Three to beam up, plus equipment. Energize."
They disappeared in a blue sparkle of light, rematerializing on the Calypso's transporter pad. T'Pral wasted no time, picking up one camera and pressing it into Rroden's arms before picking up the second herself. "Follow me," she said simply, and then exited the room.
Interested in what he might find out, Arnon followed behind Rroden.
"I'll just tag along, Lieutenant," he said. "If that's alright with you."
T'Pral's response was to simply nod once. Her lack of a dismissal was her way of authorizing him. She didn't waste any time, immediately going to the first turbolift. As soon as the others entered she spoke, "Deck 32," and the unit began moving. She stood quiet and stoic in the rear of the car.
Rroden carried the camera as requested and kept up with T'Pral, but his focus was everywhere else as he looked around. "This is your ship?" he asked, not hiding the awe in his voice.
"Indeed," T'Pral replied simply.
"it is...surprising," was all Rroden could say.
Her eyes flicked to the Jeneferan for a moment. "What did you expect?"
"I...do not know," he admitted. "But nothing like...this. This is beyond anything I could have imagined."
If she was human, T'Pral could have smiled. But, she wasn't. "The Federation has more than two centuries of starship construction experience. We have made many advancements in that time."
"Ah," Rroden said, nodding sagely. "Perhaps we will have ships like this before we are as old."
"If you become members of the Federation, all of this will be available to you."
Rroden looked around, his gaze sharpening. "That could come in quite handy," he said, smiling. "Quite handy indeed."
