[OLD]
Kali didn't hear every word, but she understood most of it. She didn't understand why she knew they were arguing, either. There were still no words to be heard. The arguing made her head hurt. He trusted her. That meant a lot. Perhaps, at last, she had found an ally.
She slowly pushed open the door. "Thank you," she said quietly.
[NEW]
Orvack looked over to Kali. Surprised and concerned. Was she thanking him for the rescue or for defending her with Reina. He looked over to his sister for a moment, before walking over to Kali slowly. Orvack extended his hand sllightly, as if showing her he meant no harm, as he approached her slowly. He had a feeling. Was he right or just jumping to conclusions? As he slowly took her hand, his eyes gentle and focused on Kali, his sister telepathically interrupted.
Kali smiled at Orvak. His gentleness helped her feel safe and protected, something she had not felt in a long time.
"What do you expect to happen, Orvack? Her mind is as thick as the rest of her kind". Reina telepathically scoffed as she placed her hands on her hips.
"Enough, Reina." Orvack telepathically replied, his eyes and calm face still focused on Kali as his mind was focused on his sister. "When are you going to understand? Year's ago, we were one and the same. We call ourselves Qunari, but before the war we were all Jenefran. Our insides are still the same. We bleed the same color blood. Where and how we live is why we are the way we are today."
Reina let out a soft growl and approached Orvack from behind. "You have heard to much of our father's nonsense. They are our enemy. As our Chief, you must think of saving your people before you think of saving your enemy."
Kali tensed and moved closer to Orvak. How could she tell them that she wasn't their enemy? That she meant them no harm? Her eyes turned to Reina, then back to Orvak.
"She is our people, Stubborn." Orvack telepathically retorted as he turned to face Reina, before looking back to Kali. "Once we stop saving lives and ending them we become our enemy." He telepathically whispered before walked off to a draw, suddenly getting an idea. He search and search, rummaging through forgotten trinkets and broken bobbles before finally finding what he was searching for.
From out of the draw, Orvack pulled out a small bracelet. It was leather, with small etchings burned into it, and it's center piece was an oval gem. The same gem they used to telepathically speak to each other. This bracelet was given to younglings as a gift so they could use it to speak telepathically while their mental abilities grew in time. Once they reached the time of maturity, the bracelet was discarded so they could use their telepathic speech on their own, no longer using the bracelet as an aid.
Orvack returned, taking Kali's hand gently in his grip. He held up the bracelet, showing it to her, than pointed to her wrist. He gave her a gentle smile, nodding his head a bit in hopes she would understand his intention to give it to her.
Kali nodded, understanding what he meant, but not comprehending why he wanted her to wear the bracelet.
"Put that away, Orvack. That's useless. I told you her head is too think. Have you honestly lost your mind, brother?" Reina telepathically said, crossing her arms in disapproval.
"Will you shut up and indulge me, Rei?" Orvack replied mentally, turning to look at her with a stern look. "If you will not indulge me as your blood, than indulge me as your Chief."
Reina gave him an equally stern look before scoffing. "Fine, Stubborn. But when it fails I have full reign to laugh in your face... as your sister."
Orvack shook his head before looking back to Kali. Once again he gestured to the bracelet before laying it on her wrist, but not tying it around. He stood there almost nervously, anticipating her response.
Kali carefully tied the bracelet around her wrist. It was a pretty little thing, but she had a feeling there was a deeper significance behind it. And then her eyes widened. There was something odd about the bracelet. It was as if she had been half asleep and now she was awake.
Orvack nodded, adding a little smile, before placing his hand on the bottom of her chin and gently raising it so their eyes met. Once she was focused on him, and only him, he stood up straight and held up his own hand, the one opposite to arm he had placed the bracelet on, and raised it slightly. He moved his other arm and placed that hand on his wrist, trying to signal to her she had to touch the gem with her other hand. Once he repeated the action, he reached over and tapped his fingertips to her lips, shaking his head a bit. Orvack than moved the same fingertips to the side of her head before moving them to his own head. He repeated the last three actions in hopes she would understand.
Kali put her hand on the gem as he instructed. Why he didn't want her to talk and what it had to do with her head, she didn't know. Well, not until she began to hear the thoughts around her.
Instinctively, she turned to Reina. "I am not your enemy," she said to the woman.
Reina flinched slightly, hearing Kali's voice as distorted shouting. "She's yelling." She replied, looking over to her brother as she replied telepathically. Stop her or I will, Orvack" She than shot an angry look to Kali.
Orvack quickly took Kali's wrist and eased her hand off the gem. He paused slightly, taking a deep breath before gently lowering it back on, focusing on her eyes. Trying to lock his mind to hers. "Focus." His voice slightly echoed softly in her mind. "Don't force it. One mind at a time. Short thoughts at first. Softly, Princess. If you push it, all we get is loud voices. Gentle push. Gentle voices. Understand?"
"How does this work?" she asked softly, trying to modulate her thoughts. She looked up at him. "And how do you know I'm a Princess?"
Orvack placed his hands on hers and smiled slightly. "We have been enemies with your people for a long time, Princess. Information has jumped from one side to another between those long years. Your name, and your fathers name, have come across my eyes several times. It's nice to see you don't share your fathers hatred of me and my people."
Kali shook her head. "My father does not hate you. Until recently, our relations have been peaceful. He attacks because he was told that your people attacked us and killed our emissaries." Before he could comment, she squeezed his hands. "I know it was not your people. I think there's someone on my father's council who wants war, but I don't know why."
