OLD

She stormed out to the main room, or at least as much as of a storm as could be conjured up by a woman who already had the pregnancy waddle...

"You have full access to the records and scans, you have your keyboard." He said in a louder voice as he followed her and got around her in sleek short order to look her in the eye. "Now See Here, My Lady." He said sternly. "I love you and you are not just an Incubator; you are the one blessed to bring the life into the universe." He leaned down to look her in the eye. "Now as a fellow Doctor I can say I agree with the prognosis that bed rest is needed for the best safety of my Wife and you WILL follow what the Doctor orders!" He actually raised his voice almost to a yell.

Nhallia's eyes were wide with a strange kind of fear- almost with panic- she pushed back away from him and tried to go the other way. It was only a few steps in any direction before she was stopped by another wall, another piece of furniture. She felt trapped, stuck, closed in- like she was being boxed up and forgotten.

Her breathing started coming faster and her heart rate increased- classic signs of a panic attack- and she started getting lightheaded. Dizziness had been an issue since she'd become pregnant, but it had never yet been accompanied by this kind of emotional turmoil....

before she could lose balance Newmark's Field reflexes came into play, he moved to the chair and eased her into his lap as he sat cradling her close to him.

"Take it easy my Love..." He said gently. "Steady breaths..."

Clinging to her husband and trying to calm herself, Nhallia began to cry. It started with just a few tears trickling out, but built slowly to real and true sobbing. She was exhausted, she was frightened, she felt like she was being cornered- backed into a small place with options closing off and every escape like work and physical exertion and music performances being taken away from her one by one. She was being forced into someplace small and confining and everywhere she looked were walls and obstacles.

“I can’t- I can’t,” she cried. “I need the ocean… I want to go home…”

"I will call your Father..." He began.

“No!” Nhallia almost wailed. “I want to go HOME. Our home. Risa… I need the ocean- I need OUR HOME…” she tried to explain.

Newmark was stunned by her reply; she had wanted to go to Risa... she was born on Earth, by all reasoning that should be home.
"I-I -will call Mother and Doc... have the place made ready." He said without hesitation. "Y-you realize Mother will be there a-and Doc c-can help with baby?"

She buried her face in his shoulder, still crying, but slowly losing the hysterical edge to it. "Just get me home..." she pleaded with him.

"I'll Have you on a runabout Soon." He assured her. "You will be there in no time." He hoped those were the words she wanted?

She nodded into his shoulder and cried until she was just too tired to cry anymore, too weak to continue the panic-attack. She had worked herself up to such a degree and so quickly that if anyone other than Verdeth had been there they would probably have called sickbay for an emergency sedative. Now she had bottomed out, and was almost trembling with exhaustion- a state almost as bad for her current state of health as the raging and crying had been.

"You want to call the girls to help pack and such after a little nap?" He suggested. "A little early to be up and around." He nestled her closer. "Just a little rest before we get you packed." He began caressing her back gently.

Nhallia sagged against him. "I don't want to need help," she tried to explain. "I- I need it, I think... I just feel so wretched and helpless and trapped." Her body had betrayed her and failed her, again and again, ever since becoming pregnant, and now it felt like it had failed her so badly she was practically being sentenced to jail, even if it did have a comfortable name like 'bed rest'. If she wasn't so entirely worn out after the earlier attack, she might have had another one. As it was, her heart rate only increased very slightly, blood pressure rising just a touch, not even enough to stir her; she was almost asleep and once she dropped off she'd be practically passed out as her body tried to recover.

"Believe one thing Love." He said gently. "I admire the sacrifice you are giving our little one and in my profession I understand the biological changes, I have seen them in great changes in your body and the fact I cannot seem to give you more comfort is a prison in itself. But above all of thatI can say it will be over soon; Mother and Doc will pamper you and help you where I cannot." He smiled. "I will follow in a couple of weeks though the time will not be ... easy for me." HE put his forehead to hers. "I Love you Nhallia and your health is highest on my desire list , please believe that."

"I love you," she murmured and curled her fingers into the sign for the same words, barely aware that she did so because it was so natural to her.

Mirroring the hand, he placed his over hers to touch the 'I love you' with his wife for a moment.
