Mission:
Of Gods and Men
Location: Arnon's Quarters
Timeline: Before the recent Mission Briefing
Victoria moaned as she stretched, her arm bumped into the warm body next to her. Her clothes had been discarded on the deck next to the bed. "We gotta stop meeting like this," she joked.
"Stop meeting like this?" Arnon said in mock horror. "Prime Number forbid! I would rather have my toenails clipped with a bat'leth than forgo meeting you like this again...and again...and again..."
Arnon had pulled Victoria towards him so her back was against his chest and slipped his arms around her. With each 'again' he kissed her from behind her ear down to her shoulder.
"Now that you've had your way with me," he said, jokingly, nuzzling Victoria's neck. "I suppose you want to be fed as well?"
"Of course," she giggled. "Why else do I keep you around?"
Arnon chuckled. They were in his quarters, so he did what anyone would do in this situation.
"Computer?" he said.
"Yes, Doctor Barak?" the computer responded.
"Activate Emergency Culinary Hologram please," Arnon replied.
At once a pleasant looking gentleman in his middle years appeared wearing chef's whites and a chef hat.
"Good morning Doctor Barack," the ECH said. "Please state the nature of your culinary emergency."
"Good morning, Chef," Arnon replied. "We need breakfast. My guest is Doctor Victoria Drani. Please treat her as you would me."
"Of course, Doctor Barak," Chef replied. "Good morning, Doctor Drani. What can I get for you?"
Drani was surprised at the appearance of the hologram as she absently made sure the bed sheet covered her. "Um, an omelette with ham and cheese will be fine, thanks." She then looked at Arnon. "You have a holographic chef program?"
"Two scrambled eggs, a whole wheat bagel, grilled, tomato and avocado slices on the side, coffee and juice, please," Arnon said to Chef.
"Of course, Doctor Barak," Chef replied. "I will take care of that right away."
"Sometimes a need for fine cuisine qualifies as an emergency," Arnon said to Victoria with a smile after Chef left the room. "Actually, it was a gift from someone. At first I thought it was a gag gift because the form it took when it came to me was an Orion woman wearing only an apron and a chef's hat. I thought that was tasteless and had it reset to the default setting. Unfortunately, the programmer I employed has so far had difficulty resetting the female version so we are stuck with a man with not a great deal of personality. Otherwise I would have used the female version so you would be more comfortable."
Arnon pointed to the night stand.
"If you'd like, there is a robe and other things I replicated for you in there," he said. "You are welcome to my shower. I wholeheartedly volunteer to wash your back and anything else you would like washed."
"I am comfortable," she reassured him. "The hologram was just a bit of a shock, really," she said, letting the sheet fall from her. "I can think of a few things needing washing," she giggled. "Just let me know if you have anymore holograms first."
Arnon's voice caught in his throat for a moment. He cleared it and spoke as he rose from the bed.
"I think we can give the Emergency Shower Companion Hologram the morning off," he said. Arnon held out his hand to Victoria. "Shall we?"
"Emergency shower companion?" she asked, standing. "Let me guess, female orion model? Were you that lonely?" she chuckled.
Arnon laughed.
"Sex with holograms is going too far for me," he said. "I prefer the real thing, like making love to you, for example. Speaking of which..."
Arnon pulled Victoria into his arms and kissed her. After a few moments, he released her.
"Now," he said with a grin. "Into the shower with you! You have a back, not to mention an entire beautiful body that needs washing and I'm just the man to do it. Or you could lie back down, in which case breakfast will almost certainly turn into a late brunch before we're done."
"Yes sir," she said, grinning and disappearing into the shower area with Arnon following close behind.
------------------------
Victoria, fully dressed in her uniform took a bite of her omelet. "Do you feel we are moving too fast?" she asked Arnon. She enjoyed the time with him and the love making was wonderful but she had never felt or been so intimate with someone.
Arnon smiled at Victoria. He reached out his right hand towards her left. As their hands touched their fingers intertwined without conscious thought. That, more than anything, told Arnon that things were moving along just fine. He felt as though an electric current flowed between the two of them. Arnon gave Victoria's hand a gentle squeeze and began to caress her hand with his thumb.
"I am absolutely comfortable with how things are progressing," he said. "But the question that needs to be answered is whether or not you are feeling that things are moving too fast. If you are, what can I do to make you feel more comfortable with our relationship?"
"I am...it's, well, it's just that I haven't been in a relationship in years. I also need to get to work soon before Dr. Newman gets worried and sends Security out for me." Yet, she enjoyed being with Arnon and really didn't want to leave.
Arnon wanted Victoria to stay a while longer but he understood that she had a job to do and couldn't 'play hookie' just because she felt warm and snugly and wanted to spend the day with him. Arnon didn't have many appointments scheduled today, but he did have a few and he had a little bit of dictation to catch up on. Arnon flashed a loving smile at Victoria.
"I understand completely," he said. "Both your fears and nervousness and the need to get to work. We can take this as slowly as you need to. Can you stay long enough to finish breakfast? I'm enjoying just being with you."
Victoria smiled. "I'm enjoying things just how they are. And not finish my food? Perish the thought," she said before taking another bite of the omelette.
"Excellent," Arnon replied with a smirk. "So, what's on the schedule today? Anything special or another day of bumps, bruises, coughs, sniffles, and headaches? I don't dismiss what you do for a living as boring or routine. Far from it. I don't remember a 'quiet' day from when I was in family practice. There would always be at least one patient who had gotten involved some misadventure that lead them to my office. That, or there was at least one who had contracted a rare form of something that would be mostly harmless in anyone else but was causing them no end of trouble. To be honest, if I didn't have several of each of those each day I considered myself a slacker. AND I was dual certified as both a family physician and psychiatrist so you can imagine my workday was rather lively. The very young, the middle-aged, the very old, and the mentally ill all in one clinic."
"Ah, that explains why you're a sexaholic," Drani remarked with a laugh before continuing. "But nothing special scheduled for today. We've done inventory, so I may run a few scenarios on the team."
"You don't seem to complain about my interest in sex as long as it is directed towards you," Arnon said with a grin. "And, as I would like to keep my internal organs internal and not on the outside being slow roasted over a fire, I have no intention of directing it anywhere else."
"Smart man," she grinned as she finished her omelette. She stood and gave him a kiss.
Arnon stood and returned Victoria's kiss.
"Let me walk you out," he said. "Perhaps I'll see you later?"
"Count on it," she smiled as she exited Arnon's Quarters.
