Deadly Diplomacy

The slight humm from the runabout's warp engines was the only noise occupying the passenger cabin of the Danube Class Runabout. Lt. Drani leaned back in her chair with her eyes closed. She hadn't been able to get any sleep on the 12 hour trip to rendezvous with the USS Calypso. She absently touched her communicator. She was once again serving in Starfleet, subjected to it's many rules and regulations. This made her nervous, yet excited about the future. Admiral Lee had been right. She would be able to do more good aboard a starship than the colony she had taken up residence at a year ago.
A beep sounded in the cabin. "Doctor Drani. This is Lieutenant Yosi, "you have an oncoming call from Bajor."
Drani opened her eyes and sat the chair in the upright position before hitting the intercom button on her arm rest. "Put it through to my terminal," she said, grabbing PADD and securing the link on her end.
"Will do, doctor. Yoshi, out."
A moment later in blue Federation Standard was replaced by a man dressed in a Bajoran military uniform wearing the rank of colonel with grey hair appeared on the monitor screen.
Drani smiled widely. "Hey dad. How are you?"
Drani's father returned his daughter's smile. "Hello sweetie. I'm doing well. Not too much for me to do these days. Makes me miss the old days.". Anyway, I am calling because I've heard...and now see that you have rejoined Starfleet."
"Yeah. Admiral Lee located and convinced me to rejoin."
"I see...and are you really ready to get back in Starfleet after what happened?" her father asked.
"I think so. Next time I won't sit by and allow people to die simply because they weren't warp capable. Damn the consequences," Drani replied sternly.
Her father again grinned. "That's my girl." He had always been proud of his daughter. Especially when she wanted to stay on Betazed after the Dominion War to become a doctor as her mother had been.
"Have you given a thought as to when you will retire?" Drani asked, wanting to change the subject.
"No. Retirement is for quitters. I've served Bajor all my life...I can't stop now."
Drani sighed, wishing her father would reconsider, yet knew his stubbornness on the matter. He had fought the Cardassians, Klingons, and the Dominion. All in the name of Bajor. "I understand, dad."
"Lieutenant Yoshi to Doctor Drani. We're on approach to the Calypso. Touchdown in one minute."
"Well dad, I have to go. It was good talking to you," Drani said.
Her father nodded. "I understand. Talk to you soon, sweetie. Take care of yourself."
"I will, dad. Goodbye." She then closed the link and placed the PADD away into her Starfleet issued duffel bag.
Drani waited as the runabout settled onto the deck of the Calypso and powered down the engines into standby mode.
The crew door opened on the starboard side. Drani stood and exited the runabout, looking around in the large hanger. She forgot just how large the Galaxy Class was. She then heard approaching footsteps and noticed a human Starfleet petty Officer in command uniform approaching her.
"Welcome aboard, ma'am. I'm Petty Officer Anderson and I'll show you to your quarters before you report in officially," he replied, attempting to keep his thoughts pure as he took in the image of the beautiful doctor, knowing she was at least part betazoid.
"Very well, petty Officer. Lead the way," Drani gestured as she followed the petty Officer out of the shuttlebay.
