Mission: Deadly Diplomacy
Location: Rerady Room

[OLD]

"Hold on wait one minute." Jennifer said holding her hand up to York turning to Jethro. "You didn't tell her?"

[NEW]

"Jennifer, you know the sensitive nature of that mission." Jethro replied calmly.

"Bullshit Jethro and you know it. You've already broken the oath and told me. You could have asked Hunter!" Her voice began to rise as she scolded the elder agent. "Jesus christ don't you think that all the hell Morat has put her through qualifies her to know what is going on? Her ship is in danger for god sakes. Don't tell me you can't see what Morat is doing!"

She turned back to Samantha. "As for you, you need to start getting some answers. Please ask of me what you will."

"Jennifer!" Jethro said rising from his seat angrily meeting her at eye level.

"Shut it." she said through her teeth. "You need to sit down."

Sam raised an eyebrow at the turn of events. "So what is it I don't know about Gul Morat and why she's targeting the Calypso?"

Jethro sat down slowly shaking his head. He knew this was a bad idea but the kid needed to learn.

"I'm going to say nothing judging by Jethro's reaction here. The important thing you know is that she is targetting you. Chances are your severed link from Starfleet Command has been orchestrated by her and those who may or may not be knowingly complicate in her plans. Her motive are quite simple. She is driven by rage and vengeance. She is settling old scores and she will not stop until she believes those whom have wronged her pay their penance. Sadly Commodore you are an innocent bystander whom has been dragged into an almost decade old conflict." Jennifer took a seat now hoping Samantha would not be offended. She could tell already this was going to be a long conversation.

"I already know that," Sam said. "I know she has someone in Starfleet Command doing her bidding. He brought trumped-up charges against Alexandria and when they were thrown out, tried to have her sent someplace for rest. Her replacement arrived shortly after." Sam glanced at Vance. "Storm was clearly sent here before Alexandra was given her transfer orders -- orders which I refused." She turned back to Jennifer. " So, I am not as in the dark as you think."

"Thomas Shanks was a distraction." Jethro interrupted. "He has no idea the gravity of the situation he is facing he only sees a chance to climb the mountain. Storm on the other hand, he was to play a bigger part in all of this. I have some of my old contacts working on his whereabouts but like the Commander stated he's gone dark."

"He left with the Cardassian Ambassador and Lieutenant Commander Serena Vance," Sam informed him.

"You have another daughter?" Jennifer questioned Jethro.

"No." he replied gruffly dismissing the notion immediately.

Jennifer studied his response briefly furling her brow as she found it to be overt had the name been a true coincidence. A skeleton perhaps?

"I've been told Miss Vance has returned to Starbase twenty two and the Cardassian Ambassador is enroute to Cardassia. I'm still working my Cardassian contacts to find out exactly why they showed up." Jethro replied coolly brushing past the mention of Serena.

"She said it was to apologize for Alexandra's death. She said three Cardassian ships were stolen and it was they that killed your daughter and her security escort," Sam said.

Jethro furled his brows seemingly unsettled by the explanation. He began to rub his chin as he tried to decypher the true purpose of the visit.

"That seems highly unlikely Commodore. Relations with the Cardassians, while not hostile are far from amicable. To accept responsibility for a terrorist attack? I think not. I'm also willing to bet those ships were not stolen. I can go over the sensor data with Lieutenant Munich if you like and trace their origins. I have very little doubt it will somehow trace back to Morat." Jennifer commented.

"Which is why they were escorted to the VIP area and not allowed to venture anywhere on the ship without a security escort," Sam said. "They did not stay long. Right now my Intel department is working on another matter. Admiral Hunter was looking into the death of Commander Vance."

"I'll have a talk with Max, see where he got to." Jethro volunteered.

"There we have it." Jennifer said slapping her hands together smiling at the two. "Progress. If you need me for anything Commodore I will be happy to help. Otherwise I will assist Admiral Hunter and Jethro with Alexandra's case."

Sam still wasn't sure what to expect from either of these two, but she saw something in Jennifer that made her want to give the woman a chance. "Yes, see what you can find out about what really happened," she said. "For now. I'd also like to the two of you to see what you can do with Beckinsale. She's back on drugs and spiraling downward. She needs help. As for First Officer..." Sam paused for a moment. "We'll see. It has to go through proper channels but I'm not going to dismiss it out of hand. Fair enough?"

"On that note, I think our little father, daughter talk is long overdue. If you two would excuse me." Jethro said rising from his chair leaving Samantha and Jennifer in the room. Tate had turned in her chair to watch Vance depart turning back to Samantha once the doors had slid closed behind him.

"Just be careful Commodore. Until we know who is who in this game I would try and keep things close to the chest. Morat is going to try an exploit you in anyway she perceives as a weakness. I would suggest Colonel Raine also keep on his toes. I hope we can soon put this all to rest and let you go on with your lives."

Sam folded her arms across her chest. She had a very small circle of people who actually knew what was going on with Morat. This woman was not going to be one of them until Sam knew she could trust her. IF Sam could trust her. "That IS the goal, Commander."

"Very well. If you don't have anymore questions it seems I have a bit of work to do." Tate replied awaiting Sam's response before rising.

"Go ahead. Talk to the Quartermaster about your quarters," Sam said. "Let me know if there's anything you need right now. After that...we'll see how things go."
