ON

The sun was beginning to set and the team that had gone to investigate the cave and the alien machinery inside had not returned to camp.

Damon was a little more than concerned that they had not returned by now. He stood at the edge of camp keeping an eye out for any kind of movement, his fingers drumming impatiently on his carbine. He kept telling himself that Sam probably found something interesting and she had lost track of time...But even still, the Marines with her would have insisted they return to camp before dark despite whatever grievance she might have had. With a shake of his head he moved back into the core of the camp.

His eyes scanned the people milling around. He knew one of the scouts who had found the cave went with Sam, but the other remained here in camp. He asked a passing Marine where the scout went and was quickly pointed in the right direction.

It only took a moment for him to catch up with the scout. "Do you remember where that cave was?" He asked, cutting to the chase.

"Yes, sir," Kara replied. "It's upriver about 45 minutes walk."

"Good, take your shadow and find out what's holding up the Lieutenant."

"Yes, sir," Kara said again, saluting. "Come on, Peters," she said to the Ensign.

The two of them made their way carefully along the river and to the cliff where the cave was. Or, used to be. When they got there, they found that there had been some sort of catastrophic event and the cave opening was filled with rubble. Kara took out her scanner and scanned the debris to see how far back it went. 30 meters. Too far to dig them out. Even with an artillery-based phaser it would take three hours to burn through all the rubble. Kara got as much data as she could while Ensign Peters kept guard.

Then the two of them returned to camp and reported to Lieutenant Raine.

Damon swore under his breath. "Sergeant, I want a squad of Marines ready to go with all of the explosives they can carry. We are Oscar Mike in five, understood?"

"Yes, sir," Kara said. "McCarthy, Peters, help me get the ordnance."

Damon walked determinedly through the camp and into the hopper. "Doctor." He addressed the Ensign as he stepped closer.

Doctor Bowen stood up, "Yes?"

"It seems Lieutenant York and the Marine escort have been caught in a cave in. I'm taking a squad of Marines with me, including the corpsman, to try to get them out. Until we get back I’m putting you in command." He looked over his shoulder and moved closer to talk in a hushed tone. "I don't trust our guests, that's why you run things, okay?"

She felt a little frighten to take charge of strangers. "Um, how long are you going to be gone? I prefer to be in charge of sickbay...not babysitting these people."

"Multi task." He said slightly annoyed "We will be gone as long as it takes to get Sam and the others out of that cave. Look, you have three injured Marines, each of which can handle a weapon. I'll also leave one fully combat effective Marine in addition. With your Starfleet buddies it should be enough to keep things sorted here."

"Oh, okay," she hoped that the Marine is capable of protecting her. After he left her, she went to check on the injured Marines, making sure that the changed bandages were not soaked again.

Melo, Peters and McCarthy brought the ordnance to Damon. "We're ready, sir," Kara said.

Damon nodded to the Sergeant and looked at the group of men and women standing before him. "MARINES!" He yelled to gather their attention. "We have some people that are trapped in a cave and they need our help to get out. We don't leave our people behind!" He picked up a block of the explosive "If this doesn't do the trick then, so help me god, we will dig them out by hand! Oohrah!?"

The group responded as one. "OOHRAH!"

Damon nodded at their affirmative answer. "We will be making good time. I'll set the pace. Fall out!"
