Arnon fidgeted as he rode the turbolift to Calypso's Bridge, towards his meeting with his new commanding officer Commodore Samantha York.

"I'm actually a little nervous," he thought to himself, chuckling. The turbolift arrived at the Bridge and Arnon stepped off. He'd been on Galaxy classes before, recently, in fact. He knew his way around. He went up to the Ready Room hatch and hit the door chime.

Sam was taking a moment to water her plants. When she heard the chime she set aside her little watering can and turned to the door. "Come in."

Arnon entered the Ready Room and proceeded to the appropriate distance from the Captain's Desk and did his best impression of standing at attention (which was a very good impression if he did say so himself).

"Doctor Arnon Barak reporting to the Commodore as her new Chief Counselor," he said.

"Welcome, Lieutenant," Sam said, giving the officer a friendly smile. She indicated the chair opposite her desk. "Please have a seat. Can I get you something to drink?"

"No thank you, Commodore," Arnon replied, taking a seat. "I'm just happy to be back at work."

Sam nodded and sat behind her desk. "So, Lieutenant, tell me what brings you to the Calypso."

"I enjoy being out here, ma'am," Arnon replied. "Now that the mother of my son Carlos has recovered from her illness, I can refocus my time on my career."

She'd read about the illness in his personnel file and nodded. "I think that's what drives a lot of us to join Starfleet. Either a desire to explore or just to be out in space. Tell me something about your past experience."

"I've got quite a bit, I'm afraid," Arnon responded. "I've been an emergency physician, a family doctor and psychiatrist, a civilian doctor attached to Starfleet and the SFMC for the Cardassian Wars, the Second Klingon War, and the Dominion War, and a clinical psychologist. I hold a Doctor of Medicine and a Doctor of Psychology and have been to Starfleet Academy where I studied, among other things, xenopsychology."

"Doctor Bowen has a good staff, but I wouldn't be surprised if she calls upon you from time to time," Sam said. "We also have a chaplain -- who is the head of our diplomacy department and a counselor who has done her best to keep the department going. I suggest you meet them at your earliest convenience as you are likely to be working closely with them while you are here."

"Of course," Arnon said. "The counselor works for me so I'll be meeting with them as soon as possible, and I always work closely with ship chaplains. If you'd like my assistance with xenopsychology matters, I'm happy to help. Otherwise, I'll content myself with being an "old country doctor" or in this case "old country counselor". My services are of course available to you at any time."

"Thank you," Sam said. "I will probably take you up on that at some point," Sam assured him. "For now, meeting your staff and getting settled into your department is your first priority. After that, you're likely to be thrown in at the deep end."

"I look forward to it," Arnon said. "Will there be anything else?"

"Not at the moment," Sam said. "Do you have any questions for me?"

"No, Ma'am," Arnon said. "If that's all, I'll get to work, with your blessing of course."

"Go right ahead," Sam said. "Welcome aboard."
