What The Hell Is Going On?

Posted on Thu Mar 20th, 2014 @ 1:02pm by Lieutenant Eamon Lynx & Ensign Mak Free [Lynx] & Lieutenant JG Shannon O'Brian

638 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Revenge
Location: Engine Room
Timeline: After the Kidnapping Before the Briefing

Eamon walked in from the turbolift and stepped over to the center console table. "Okay everyone, gather around. We have just had some of our people taken from the ship. I want everyone to check all systems and I want to know if any of your colleagues are missing as well. Let's get to it."

He waved over to Shannon who he hadn't met before. "I'm Lieutenant Eamon Lynx, Chief Engineer and you are?"

O'Brian straightened up and saluted. "Lieutenant JG, Shannon O'Brian, Engineering Officer. Formerally assigned to the Ares. I just arrived an hour or so before all 'this' began. Where would you like me?"

"The Ares hmm," Eamon muttered. "Oh and please keep the saluting to a minimum, only when the Commodore is around." He winked.

Eamon gestured to the entire engine room. "So what is your focus?" He watched as engineers dashed around checking things and working together.

O'Brian slightly shrugged. "I was one of those people they called a 'Jane of All Trades..' I can 'fill in' where I'm needed.."

"A better question would be, what do you like the most about being an engineer?" Eamon asked, hoping he would get a handle on the woman's interests so he could give her tasks that she would be the most effective doing.

That question brought a smile to O'Brian's face. "That's an easy one..'The Power' of the Engineering Section. It's almost 'alive' in itself." O'Brian's face seemed to light up while talking. A smile(or was it a smirk)came to her face. "Some folks don't seem to appreciate what they have untill it's gone, do they?"

He nodded. "True. Though I wouldn't use the word 'alive'. So power and electro-plasma distribution specialist? Though I will not limit you to those duties as I like my department to know all about the ship so things get done faster. Got to keep those on the bridge happy." Eamon rambled on he coughed when he realised. "Um do you have any questions?"

O'Brian smiled and replied, "Will I be working with another person, or myself. I've always felt that with more than one person doing the research, another set of eyes might catch something missed by the other." She then privately thought back to Eamon's last rambling talk..'Tooo easy.'

"Anything I should know about you so I can understand you?" He asked, Eamon wondered what else he could ask.

Shannon grinned. " I like to work alone. Just kidding... I'm stubborn when it comes to reasearch, I'll keep digging untill I find an answer.. How about you?"

"That can be a good thing until you come across secrets that may need to remain hidden. There are things that we simply shouldn't tamper with." Eamon looked at Shannon for a few moments before laughing. "I'm just kidding, dig away." He nodded. "I'm more of a repairs type, I like tinkering and fixing."

He gestured to the door, "Well we better get to work," he stood.

Shannon smiled. "Well then, we should be a perfect match. After I'm done digging, you can do the repairing." And with that she followed him through the door.

Eamon laughed. "I like that, ok, can you get started on checking the ship's power distribution grid and if it was affected by anything anywhere around the time of the abductions." He said after becoming serious again.

Shannon also grew serious. "Will do." She replied as she sat down at a console and her fingers flew over the controls.

The Inaran smiled as he watched Shannon get to work, he nodded then headed to the bridge where there would be a briefing. Eamon hoped his colleagues were okay and doing whatever they can to either survive or escape their captors.
