Korok nodded he understood only too well. He paused and looked at each of them, he gently wiped their cheeks with his thumbs. As he did the mixed Klingon met their eyes. He glanced from one to the other, they were so cute but held so much pain in, they were so brave.
[NEW]
"Oliver, Olivia, you are two very brave children but you not alone any longer. You have your new mom who loves you so much and I know that I cannot replace your father and who he was to you and how he acted and treated you. I cannot love you like he did. I can only care and love you, like I do. But you have to let me in a bit too, if you feel like talking, I will listen. You can wake me up in the middle of the night and I will listen. If you need to cry, I will hold you. I want to be here for you. Not just as a friend, but as a parent should be. For that is what I want to do. I want to be your father," paused he was sounding as truthful as his low growling self could be as he continued. "well at least try. I've never had children before and I may not be very good at it. I may even make a billion mistakes but I will try to show how much I care for you each and every day. That means sometimes when you goof up I have to be a bit tough, other times we can cry together, then other times we can celebrate and go have ice cream. It also means that homework has to be done and toys need to be picked up. Bath times, and bed time rules apply too. If as I said before your mom wants to go through with that human ritual of a wedding I will do so, for her for you for others who will view things differently if we don't. She, Roberta is my mate, my wife is what you would say, I think. To me you will be like my own children. I already feel as if you are. You two ok with that?"
Olivia and Oliver looked at each other, then back at Korok. "Sure, Mr. Korok..I mean 'Dad,' replied Oliver for the two of them.
Korok wanted desperately to protect these two young children to let them know that they were not alone. He hoped his words helped. He pulled them close together in his grip and picked them up and hugged them. They may have been a bit too big for that but he didn't care about that right now. He knew they needed reassurance and he would be damned if they didn't receive it. He squeezed very gently and he walked out of the holodeck, one on each arm, twin heads on his chest. "Computer end program." He said and the door opened.
Korok practically ran into some woman with her own child. "Awe, how cute." She said to Korok
"Thanks, they are the best children a dad could ever ask for." He kissed each of the twins on the head.
Olivia suddenly pecked Korok on his cheek, and Oliver gave him a tight hug. "Oh Dad..." Olivia said quietly.
As they turned to leave Korok heard the woman say "If your dad would have stuck around, you could be spending time with him like that."
Korok shook his head and whispered in a low growl "That was the wrong thing to say lady."
"What?" she asked
Korok never answered he squeezed his two children gently again and whispered "I love you two. Now let's go home, have a snack and read a story ok?"
Olivia looked straight at Korok. " A *real* home? Just us four?" Oliver chimed in," You won't be dissapearing suddenly again, will you?"
Korok met her eyes and smiled "Yes, a real home for the four of us, you each have your room and..." He then shook his head and continued by putting his rough ridged forehead on her smooth one and kissed the tip of her nose. He pulled back and turned to meet Oliver's eyes. "I certainly do not intend to disappear. My job is here on the ship at Bazinga's" He smiled at Oliver and then at Olivia. "and I intend to spoil your mom by cooking for her and you and Olivia every night and taking care of you both and and fulfilling as many of her desires and needs that need to be fulfilled." Korok looked back and forth at each of the twins while he walked. "So, you have to be curious about me, any questions you want to ask?"
Oliver looked around the area, a question forming in his head. As he was about to speak, Olivia piped up, asking that question.. "Mr. Korok...Dad.. If you and Mom have a child, will you....will.. Will you love it more than *us?!* "
"Oliver and you too Olivia, I am beginning to love both of you more and more everyday." Korok smiled, no he grinned at the wonders of these two children."So, you think, that having a child with your mom, will mean I love you less?"
Olivia shook her head this time. "No, 'Dad,' we just wanted to make sure. But now..I feel bad about even asking you such a thing." Oliver looked at Korok and nodded his head in a 'yes' motion. He also felt regret in even thinking it.
Korok shook his head "No Oliver, don't feel bad," He smiled at the young boy "it means that I have to try and fit into my heart a place for someone new, as you, Olivia and Roberta have it all filled up." Korok studied his young charges for a quiet moment and opened the door to the Andrew quarters. He continued to talk as he carried them in. "The two of you ok with that, having to share me with some other child, if that ever happens?"
The Twins both smiled. "Sure, we are. You going to do that soon?" Asked Oliver. Olivia hit Oliver in the arm. "Silly.they have to get married first and do..other things..."
Korok's face burned burgundy the more he thought about the 'other things', the darker it got. He walked to the sofa and set them down to stand on it. "You and you" he pointed at each of them "are a bit too young to know about those other things." He left them standing on the sofa.
Olivia and Oliver looked at each other.."But Dad.." Began Olivia.."We mean that you and Mom have to make a home first.." Continued Oliver.
Korok shook his head and opened his arms "So, what's this?" The corner of his mouth twitched with humor.
"Ohh," replied Oliver.. "We mean a home for *all* of us.."
Korok moved to the replicator and replicated chocolate chip cookies, vanilla ice cream and something called milk. He put the ice cream between each of the two cookies and made sandwiches. He motioned to the kids and set drinks down on the table and the snack. He set one down for himself and checked the time. Roberta had been gone for more then an hour, he hoped all was ok. "You'll like this."
The twins devoured the food and milk. "Delicious!" They said in unison
"Glad you like it when you're finished, go wash those little chocolate and ice cream covered fingers and then we will read that story ok?" Korok said he was glad they liked the dessert, it was on the menu for children and so easy to make.
Olivia yawned, followed by Oliver.
Korok stood up and placed the dishes to be recycled and then wiped down the table. The twins were speaking back and forth about something. He checked on the time as he had some prep work to do at Bazinga's but it wouldn't take too long. If he didn't get to it today he would have to get up an hour earlier then he wanted to tomorrow. He moved to the computer terminal and accessed it. "Computer what is the location of Lieutenant Roberta Andrews."
Computer voice "Lieutenant Andrews is currently in the Calypso's Ready Room."
Korok nodded to himself "Alright someone grab a book or I will have to make a story up." He moved to the sofa and sat down, he propped his feet up on the table and put his arms out along the back of it and waited for the twins, he leaned his head back and closed his eyes and simply listened for a while. Soon however he nodded off as he he relaxed.
