After having arrived on the USS Calypso, Lt. JG Roberta Andrews had found what would be her and children's quarters for the duration of her duty while serving on the ship.
She had quickly gotten Olivia and Oliver situated in the cabin, and would begin the paper work on enrolling them in the ships school, *after* her appointed meeting with Commodore York.
Upon changing into her proper uniform, she patted her com badge. "Lieutenant Andrews to Commodore York, I was ordered to report to you upon my arrival on the Calypso. Shall I come to your quarters?"
"I'm in my ready room off the Bridge," Sam replied. "Please meet me here."
"Affirmative, on my way.." Andrews left her cabin and proceed to the nearest turbolift. "Bridge," She stated.
When Sam heard the chime at her door she stood. "Come in."
Andrews entered and came to attentntion and saluted. " Lieutenant J.G. Roberta Andrews, Science Officer, reporting for duty."
"Hello, Lieutenant Andrews. Please, have a seat." Sam indicated the chair opposite her desk. "Would you like something to drink?"
Andrews sat down at the offered chair and raised her right eyebrow at the drink offer. "No thank you Mam. The Calypso is a beautiful ship, I look forward to serving on board it."
Sam nodded and took her seat behind the desk. "Tell me bout your last posting, Lieutenant." She looked down at a PADD on her desk. "The Ares, wasn't it?"
Andrews looked at the Commodore and replied," Yes Mam. The Ares was actually my first 'ship' posting, before that I had served planet side - that information should be available in my transfer packet."
"It is, but I always like to hear personal impressions rather than cold facts," Sam said. "You can learn far more about a person by talking to them than you can by reading about them. So, how did you like the Ares?"
Andrews half smiled as she answered. "It was an interesting experience, to say the least. Due to some 'mishap' that is still being looked at by Star Fleet, several members of its crew, including myself, found overselves in various places in what I would assume was Earth's past history, including the period wear." At that mention, Andrews quickly looked down at her chest, then back at the Commodore. We awoke back in the ships holodeck, in uniform, and in various stages of distress and curiosity. It was shortly after that, while trying to relax at my quarters, that I was informed of my transfer to the Calypso. "
Sam nodded. "Interesting. I'll have to read the report on that phenomenon. What do you expect from the Calypso?"
Andrews smiled. "I hope that I will be able to serve it, and by 'it,' that I mean not only the ship but its crew, to the best of my ability."
"A worthy goal," Sam said. "Is there anything in particular you need from me?"
Andrews thought for a moment. "I'd like to check in with my Department Head, and see what they have in store for me. Would you be able to tell me a bit about him or her?"
"At the moment we don't have a department head and the acting department head is on special assignment." Sam considered the woman for a moment. "Do you think you're up to taking on the job of Assistant Chief Science Officer?"
Andrews sat back in her chair, a bit floored by the Commodore's question. "While I don't doubt my ability to do a good job, I am curious as to know that if I accept this position would I be giving orders to persons of higher rank than I, and if so, how this might be perceived?"
"Right now, the only person of a higher rank is off the ship, so that shouldn't be a problem. But as the Assistant, you would have some say in crew rotations and lab assignments," Sam said. "So in many ways you would order the other scientists around. At least until we get a new Chief. Be aware that all scientists on this ship are allowed to use designated labs for personal projects while not on duty. I've set up a secondary science database with backup generators to keep power from cutting out if the ship gets damaged. Lieutenant Jackson runs the arboretum. She falls under your jurisdiction, but she is, for the most part, autonomous."
Andrews turned her head to one side and nodded. "Mam, if your offer is still open, I'll take that position. And I do look forward to meeting those that will be working *with* me..and that includes Lieutenant Jackson."
"Excellent." Sam pulled a PADD out of a drawer in her desk and loaded data onto it. "This has all the information you'll need, including current shift rotations and lab assignments. The Quartermaster has assigned you quarters." She handed Roberta the PADD. "Is there anything else you need?"
Andrews took a deep breath. "Mam," She began, "I don't know that you may be aware of certain 'life changes' I may be going through eventually."
"What sort of life changes?" Sam asked, not sure exactly which of many life changes the woman referred to.
Andrews continued. "A month or so ago I adopted two orphans, their Parents had died in a planetary disaster that the Ares was charged with investigating. I fell in love with those children, and was able to adopt them. Also, I had become 'romanticaly involved' with a civilian worker on the Ares, and he's transfered to the Calypso as well. We do love each other..I;m just waiting fo him to '..ask me *the* question..' I thought you shold know all this. I have no idea what quarters I may be assigned to, but I am hoping it will be 'big enough' for a family."
"That shouldn't be a problem. The Calypso is an explorer, so families are welcome here. As are relationships, as long as you don't let them interfere with your duties." As Sam herself was married, she could hardly fault anyone else for having a relationship. Besides, she felt that being in a relationship, and even a family, made many officers more responsible and thus better at their jobs. "The Quartermaster can assign you family quarters. That should give you plenty of space."
Andrews shook her head in agreement; and after a nod from the Commodore, prepared to leave. "Is there anything else I should know or be made aware o in/at my positoin? If not, I'd like to read up on my 'crew,' and get a bit of rest in my..I mean my family's quarters."
