[OLD[

The water had already begun to flow out of the main room. It was rising fast enough that if the doors hadn't sealed, they'd all drown.

[NEW]

Ronnie reminded herself this was not real as she turned from the door. She could hear the water on the other side filling fast. She squeezed Damion's hand and moved far enough away so she couldn't hear the cries of those left behind. It went against instinct and training to just leave them there. She put her head on his shoulder and took a deep breath. "Okay. Now what?" she askd softly.

"We go down? Or in this case, up." Damion walked over to a map of the ship. He pointed to a section of stairs not far from where they were. "We take the stairs. We go as high as we can and then cross over to the other side. Zig zagging back a forth until we reach somewhere we can get out from." He looked back to Ronnie. "We have to outrun the water, You know what happens to a ship when it goes belly up, don't you?"

"It sinks," she said quietly. She looked at the map and made a mental note of how to get to the bottom -- or in this case, the top -- of the ship. "Computer, deck shoes, my size."

A pair of sparkly rubber-soled deck shoes materialized. They perfectly matched her dress. Grinning, she slipped them on. "Okay, now I'm ready to go." She again took his hand and followed him to the stairs.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa." He said as he looked at her. "Computer, remove recently materialized items." With that the shoes vanished. "None of that now." Damion smiled as he held onto her hand. "We have to do this like they would. No changing anything, no altering hallways, no nothing. This is all about survival. You can't survive if you can change the situation."

"I wasn't changing the situation, I was changing my shoes." She held up her high heels. "These are practically useless." But the stairs were metal and looked more painful to climb barefoot than with shoes, so she put them back on. "Just remember this when you end up having to carry me," she warned as she began to climb the stairs.

Damion rolled his eyes slightly and then let out a small laugh.

Four flights of stairs later, she was still feeling pretty good. "Okay, now where to?"

He made it to the fourth flight and was still looking like a million bucks. He turned the corner and stopped as he saw the next set of stairs were broken and had collapsed. Damion stopped her from going and then looked around and spotted a door. "Looks like we are not going up there." He paused and then walked over to the door. He slowly put his hand against the door, wanting to feel if it was hot or cold on the other end. It felt fine and then he looked to her. "Let's go this way."

Damion turned the knob slowly and then opened the door. He immediately closed it and looked to Ronnie. "Uhh... On second thought, maybe we can go down a flight and go through the one downstairs. He wasn't sure if Ronnie could handle what he saw on the other side of that door.

She raised an eyebrow. "Whatever you want. If it's that bad in there, we can go back down a flight." She turned around and headed back down the stairs.

"Bodies, Ronnie. Spread all over the place. I didn't know how you would react to it." Damion said softly as he looked back to her. "I've seen my fair share of things like that, but I didn't know where something like that would fall in your dating protocol." He laughed a bit and then let out a slight sigh.

She nodded soberly. "Yeah, not a pleasant thing to experience. But then, I don't think dinner on the Titanic is much of a picnic, either -- for most people." She referred to their first "date." Dinner on the HMS Titanic the night it sank.

She hurried down the stairs after Damion. "I sure hope you know where you're going."

If Damion replied, she didn't hear him. Just then there was a loud explosion from somewhere below them. Ronnie was thrown over the side of the railing as the ship lurched suddenly. Fortunately, it wasn't far to the next level. She lay there for several moments, catching her breath. "Okay, now I really wish I had those tennis shoes," she groused.

She rolled over so she could get her feet under her and gasped. Okay, not such a good idea. She lay back down and carefully rotated her ankle. Or started to. The movement caused a sharp pain to shoot up her leg. Okay, another bad idea. It looked like their adventure was over for the day. Unfortunately.

"Computer, freeze program." Everything around her stopped. It looked really strange. Especially with one person about to fall to his death.

"Computer, end program." She really didn't want to keep looking at that guy.

"Sorry, Damion," she said, truly regretting that their time together was over. Maybe they'd be able to come back and finish the program. "I hurt my ankle. I'm afraid I need to get to sickbay."

She let him help her up and escort her to sickbay. "Well, I hope it wasn't a total disaster," she joked as he practically carried her off the holodeck. "Next time, I'll bring better shoes."
