Mission: The Enemy Within: Lying in Wait
Location: Various

Samantha walked out of her ready room and sat in her seat on the bridge. She still wasn't happy about the current turn of events but for now she had a rescue mission to run.

"All stations, prepare for launch. Helm, take us out."

Alexandra followed York out of the ready room after the briefing. Although the meeting had been awkward and heated at moments it proved to shed light that the only incompetence in this whole situation was that of Starfleet Command reacting when they should have simply waited. However politicians had a tendency to react under pressure instead of analyzing the situation, this was also why few intelligence admirals could be seen in Starfleet Command hierarchy.

The meeting however was now on the back-burner in her mind as she focused on the task at hand. The USS Columbia had mysteriously disappeared when responding to a distress signal on Tiberius V. Early reports indicated that the vessel had crashed on Tiberius IV, a major navigational error on the part of either the main computer or the navigator. Vance had seen alot of gross incompetence, but never this bad. The two planets were several thousands of kilometers apart. More disturbingly is how they crashed. Alexandra could sense foul play from the start but any theories were merely speculation.

She took her seat beside York, quietly observing her surroundings.

Damon suppressed a grin as Commander Vance took the seat he was headed to. Not being the Executive officer of the Calypso would likely take as much getting used to as it was when he recieved the commission in the first place.

"Take good care of that chair." He simply said to her.

"This isn't my first time out." Vance replied sharply.

Sam almost retorted that he wasn't referring to that, but refrained. Instead, she put a hand over Damon's in a show of support and understanding. At least you're still beside me she told him telepathically.

Damon shrugged, it bothered him not. It would be better for the ship to have one hard-liner replaced by another. ~Besides, I have my own ship to whip into shape.~

"Just remember, Commander, I expect the same respect and decorum earned by a higher ranking officer as you would. Watch the tone." Damon crossed his legs and looked straight ahead. It might not bother him, but the point still needed to be made.

Vance withdrew the urge to comment as her breath would be wasted upon the newly minted Captain. He was out to prove he was the alpha and at this point she had no legs to stand upon, not at this time at least. She would set aside her own personal feelings in the interest of the mission. Her collegues were out there and she had full intention of finding what happened to them.

Mandy stepped into the sickbay shortly after the message to prepare for launch. She didn't have much specific preparation to do, but started to look around for her superior officers in medical, since she wanted to know who would be giving her orders.

Ronnie, who was stationed at science, saw the woman looking a little lost. "Hi. Can I help you?"

T'Lada stepped off of the turbo-lift, talking with Daniels. "So, you see, until you open the box, the cat is both alive, and dead. And you'll never know which, until you open the box." T'Lada said. "It's one of the more basic concepts involving Quantum Physics."

"But the cat has been in that backs since before stardates, without any food." Daniels countered. "Given that it's been several centuries, and the average life expectancy of an earth House Cat is less than 20 years, I'm fairly certain the cat is deceased."

"Do not mix entropy into my quantum physics." T'Lada said, with a scowl. "It's a theoretical situation."

"Like that theoretical discussion we had about what you would do if I asked you to-" Daniels cut himself off. "Perhaps that's not an appropriate subject for the Bridge."

"Quite." T'Lada said, with a nod. "Lieutenant Lancaster will assist you with your science console training. I will-"

"be resting. It's 29 minutes after your rest cycle." Daniels finished. "Of course, boss."

T'Lada smacked him upside the back of the head.

"Sorry, Latte." He amended. "I'll get used to it, eventually.

Ronnie wondered at the discussion about Schroedinger's Cat with Daniels and the new Chief. Specifically, why the two were having it in the first place. Wasn't Daniels in security?

"Lieutenant T'Lada, greetings," Ronnie said, attempting to break up the argument.

"Lieutenant Lancaster." T'Lada said, with a nod. "This is Ensign Daniels. You are to train him on the basics of running the science console." She added, without further instruction.

"He's security," Ronnie said, wondering again what was going on.

"Is he?" T'Lada asked, with the slightest hint of a smile. "Well," She said, as she turned to Daniels, "I guess she's wanting to refuse a direct order. As a member of security, shouldn't you be arresting her?"

"I would." Daniels noted, "were it not for my burden of shame, madame Latte." He said, indicating his blue uniform style. "Damn paperwork. I don't have the clearance to do that, at the moment."

"Ah. Well, I'm sure you'll get used to it." T'Lada said, with a straight face. She turned back to Lancaster. "To reiterate, in case I wasn't being clear, please begin training Ensign Daniels on the workings of the Science Bridge Console. Immediately."

Daniels, for his part, said nothing. Likely, wisely.

"And for future reference, Lieutenant Lancaster, I do not appreciate repeating myself." T'Lada added, before walking over to Captain York. "Your summary of the expected environmental hazards we can expect on Tiberius IV, as well as a collection of other items of notable issue in the area, including, if I've read the FNN reports between the lines correctly, a political situation that we may have to encounter."

Ronnie said nothing to T'Lada. The new Chief would take some getting used to. She turned to Daniels. "Okay, let's start with what each section on the console is for."

"Thank you, Lieutenant T'Lada," Sam said, taking the PADD. She refrained from commenting on the bridge antics -- this time. She wanted to get a good feel for the new scientist before she said anything. She hoped this sort of behavior was not an omen of things to come.
