"Thank you, Lieutenant T'Lada," Sam said, taking the PADD. She refrained from commenting on the bridge antics -- this time. She wanted to get a good feel for the new scientist before she said anything. She hoped this sort of behavior was not an omen of things to come.

"It should also be noted, ma'am, that several of the refugee claims from that place," T'Lada noted, while taking extreme care not to specifically name the planetoid that many members of the crew had undergone extreme mistreatment, "are being interfered with at a Fleet Bureaucratic level, which is having a negative impact on one of the members of my department. The attached information is in the same PADD. It would be greatly appreciated if you could handle this situation, personally." She finished, before wandering back towards the turbo-lift.
"No, you don't have to show me how to run a sensor scan, it's not rocket science." Daniels muttered.
"Actually, it's faster than light science, Ensign Daniels. I suggest you pay attention." T'Lada noted, before stepping into the turbo-lift.
"Right. Sure. Whatever." Daniels muttered.
Ronnie set Daniels to preform a simple scan and turned to look at the new woman on the bridge. She was seated in Commander Raine's seat, which was odd.
Mandy shook her head when Ronnie tried to help her, though she felt bad about doing so, and waited for the Commodore to be done speaking with the other officers. Seeing that she wasn't talking to anyone at the moment, she walked over, trying not to get in anyone's way. "Umm... Hello Ma'am." Mandy said, standing up straight as she attempted to gain the Commodore's attention.
Sam made a note to look into the political situation and turned to look at Mandy and smiled. "Hello. How can I help you?"
"Hello, I just wanted to inform you that I was on board. I'm Mandy Lane." Mandy said, not quite sure of herself. "I just thought I should report in to you."
"What's your posting?" Sam asked. She quickly pulled up the girl's information on her console. "Ah. Medical. Welcome aboard. Ensign. You made it in good time. We're about to leave. Report to Commander Bowen in sickbay and get ready to accompany one of the away teams when we reach Tiberius IV."
"Yes, ma'am." Mandy said, turning away when she saw that the Commodore must have other business to attend to as well. She breathed a slight sigh of relief as she left, never having liked speaking to new people she didn't know.
Eamon worked the tactical console as he collected the data he needed to organise a search grid that the away teams can use to find the crashed Columbia. He could sense the various emotions on the Bridge but the focus on his task acted as a natural blocker.
Though until the ship was actually in orbit the actual information won't be available but the programming Eamon was writing into a macro will automatically collect and organise the actual information for use.
The ship broke from the shipyards and headed towards the Tiberius system. "As soon as we're far enough away, jump to warp," Sam ordered.
She waited until they were safely at warp before she activated the internal comm system. "Attention all hands. Effective immediately, Captain Damon Raine has been moved to the position of Mission Advisor and third in command of the Calypso." She paused and glanced at her new XO. "Our new Executive Officer is Commander Alexandra Vance. I expect you to show both officers the respect they deserve."
Now that they were at warp, Sam had a few minutes to review Intel and prepare for their arrival at Tiberius IV. "Commander Vance, you have the bridge. Notify me before we drop out of warp."
"Aye ma'am." Vance replied rising from her chair awaiting Commodore York's departure.
Sam stood and turned to Damon. "Can I speak with you in my ready room, Captain?"
Damon stood without a word and followed Samantha off the bridge.
When they were both in the room and the door closed, Sam wrapped her arms around Damon and hugged him. "I know this is a bad time but I really needed a hug."
Damon chuckled a bit as he returned the hug. "It's okay, love. you've had new XO's before. Treat it like you have them." He knew it was an over simplification, but he needed to show his support for the direction things were going.
"I know. I hope she gets better. Right now, I could cheerfully throw her in the brig." She leaned back and looked Damon in the eye. "Are you okay with this?" She was as worried about how he was taking the changes as she was about her new First Officer.
"I'll be okay. Once we all get settled into this, it'll be fine. To be honest, I'm a fair bit excited about being re-instated as a Marine." He looked down at his uniform. "I never really did get used to the way this fit." He gave her a reassuring grin.
Sam visibly relaxed. "You were happier as a Marine, too, querido -- although moving to a Fleet position kept you here, so I'm still glad you did it." She chuckled softly, hugging him again. "As long as you're based here and I get you most of the time, I'm okay with it."
She led him over to the couch and sat down. "What are your thoughts on the Columbia rescue?"
"I'll tell you right now that I don't want you anywhere near that planet." Damon said as he sat next to Samantha. "Last time was bad. This time there is a lot more happening. For all that she is abrasive, the new Commander is right to be concerned about those 'int' ships going missing."
"But I've been in the caves before. I know what to expect," Sam said, but her argument wasn't as vehement as past arguments. Even though she loved caves and was eager to explore Tiberius IV again, she was still adjusting to being back on the Calypso. "I've also rappelled the cliffs on the planet." Although she didn't want to remind him that she'd broken her arm when a strong gust of wind practically blew her off her ropes.
"I don't know, Sam." He shifted in his seat. "Just something about this mission doesn't feel right. It goes beyond heading into caves and your pension for trouble. I just don't like it, especially with the timing." The news of the Typhon's disappearance was fresh in his mind.
"Remember the freighter? Three more ships have tried to mine the planet. One disappeared, one crashed on the rocks and the third gave up when they were hit by a sandstorm. I hope the Columbia is one of the lucky ones."
She sighed and lay her head against the back of the couch. "The two Intel ships disappearing doesn't make sense. Not with the information we have." She looked over at him. "How did they get there so quickly? I was informed fifteen minutes after the distress call. Ten minutes after that, two Intel ships were also gone. Unless they were working on the Tiberius V problem ... I need to have a talk with Lieutenant Wolfe before we drop out of warp."
She pulled out the PADD T'Lada gave her. "I also have this to go over."
"Typical. Starfleet knows something and they aren't telling us." He shook his head. "What's on the PADD?"
"There's a political situation on Tiberius V," she said, scanning through the report. "T'Lada thinks it has something to do with the Columbia crash." She handed him the PADD so he could look at it as well. "There may be a tie-in with that and the Columbia crash."
"Well, there's nothing to lose by at least investigating the possibility." He said as he read over the PADD. "I'd rather us go down having too much information rather than not enough."
"Agreed," she said. "So, let's see what other information we can find..."
