Mission:
The Race for the Lost Treasure
Location: 600 meters under the ocean
Timeline: During "Down to the Planet"
After a while, the corridor emptied into a large room. Half a dozen paintings lined the walls. One depicted a large glass building in a lush garden. Another showed several tall, slim aliens looking in some sort of bowl. Ronnie scanned one after the other, taking a moment to examine each one for anything particularly telling. Except for a generally peaceful demeanor.
One painting showed the face of an alien. She had long white hair pulled back off her face. Her features were aquiline. "Hey, I wonder if she's someone important?" Ronnie asked.
Suddenly, Damion reached had his out to Ronnie and held her by the forearm. He looked around quickly and then looked back to her. "Ronnie?" He said softly as he looked around, this time slowly. "There is something here. It's difficult to pinpoint, but I know someone or something is here. I've never felt a mind like this. It's... it's... it's incredible."
What seek you here? The mental tone of the voice was a rich, calm baritone.
The voice itself gave him a big of a head rush. Damion had to close his eyes and adjust to the power behind the voice. He put one hand on his head and, with the other, held onto Ronnie's hand. "It's... it's... it's speaking. Telepathically. It wants to know what we are looking for." He opened his eyes quickly and looked to her, she could see the telepathic link between him and this voice was straining for him.
Ronnie held tightly to his hand. "Are you okay?" She looked around the room, "Hey, not all of us are telepaths. You're hurting him. Can you lighten up?"
Lighten up? the voice asked Damion. Do you require more illumination?
"She means pull back the power behind your telepathic messages." Damion took a hold of Ronnie, he was attempting to keep himself standing at this point. The sheer power behind telepathy was about to knock him on his feet.
The voice was now softer, less overwhelming. You are weak. What is your species?
"Species?" He said softly as he looked over to Ronnie and then slowly started to regain himself. Damion looked around and then stopped as he looked down slightly. "I'm half human and half Betazoid. The woman next to me is a full human. What species are you?"
"We are Torloc. You come here seeking knowledge?" the voice continued.
Ronnie began to get a headache. Was this what Damion felt, only stronger?
"Knowledge?" Damion whispered softly and then closed his eyes again. "Yes, We seek knowledge. We are explorers who cherish knowledge. We have come this far to find out what you have. Please give us a piece, so we can spread it amongst our fellow explorers."
There was a long pause. You are not the leader of your group. You were sent here by one who seeks knowledge. The small one beside you is a seeker of lesser knowledge. You, however, seek mysteries you are unready to find. We cannot help you yet. The others, perhaps.
Leo was looking around, hearing nothing. The breathing helmats visor he had snapped down when Damion had started stumbling, and his TR was at a low ready. "Does anyone else hear anything? Or is it just for the empath over there?"
"The only voice i'm hearing is the little one inside my head telling me that this isn't right." Trent scanned the room for any possible threats.
"I think it's just for the empath," Ronnie answered.
Who is Captain?
"Captain Samantha York. She is the leader of our crew and commander of out ship." Damion responded.
She is a seeker of knowledge? the voice asked. It seemed to be hesitant about Damion. There were moments when it pulled away from some of his darker thoughts and memories.
The entity pressed gently against Leo's mind, but pulled away again.
Trent saw the uncomfortable expressions on the faces of the people around him and didn't want to be the next on the list. "Okay guys, i'm really thinking we shouldn't be here. Should we maybe start leaving?" He suggested. He was in no position to order it, but he certainly hoped someone would take him up on his offer.
Ronnie tapped her combadge. "Lancaster to Captain York. I think we've made contact."
There was a moment or two of silence, then a crackling response. "York to Lancaster. Contact?"
"Some form of AI, from what I can gather. I think it's telepathic as it only seems to be affecting Lieutenant Wolfe."
Sam sat at her desk in her ready room and sighed. It was times like this she hated being stuck on the ship. "See if there's a computer you can tape into and send the information directly to me. York out."
The signal faded out on the last word. Ronnie began to search the room for a console. "PFC, I'm not leaving until I find what the Captain wants. Is there something that looks like a computer around here?"
She began to search until she found a small indentation on one of the walls. When she pressed it a panel slid open, revealing some form of control panel. "Ha. This must be it." She used the tricorder Sam gave her to analyze the symbols on the various buttons and switches.
Leo backstepped to where he was covering the woman and looked down. "What are you doing?" He asked still trying to see if anything was going to attack. "Are you sure that's safe?"
"I'm trying to contact the ship. No, I don't know if it's safe," Ronnie replied. Using the tricorder, she managed to find something that looked more or less like a communications array. She pushed several buttons and grinned when a series of lights began to flash.
A moment later a figure appeared in front of them. It spoke in a strange, melodic tone for a moment, then paused and began again. "Greetings. Welcome to Alannris. I am Vahana."
Ronnie looked at the others and then spoke, figuring as the scientist it was probably better she do it than the others. "Hi. We're from the Starship Calypso. Our Captain sent us in search of knowledge."
"This Captain you speak of. What is Captain?" it asked. "Why is Captain not here seeking this knowledge?"
