1,056 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: The Race for the Lost Treasure
Location: 600 meters under the ocean
Timeline: During "Down to the Planet"

== Going Deep (600 meters)==

Ronnie kept a close eye on her tricorder. She let Damion take the lead and stayed close behind him. "Right here," she said, stopping beside a rocky outcropping. "It's on the other side of these rocks. Is there an opening?"

Maddison nodded, and spoke/sang. "A likely place to hide things. Few fish which'd cause much damage would be this deep, or in such a difficult to access place."

Leo tried to pull the rifle, noticing he seemed sluggish. The weapon felt heavier too, and he let it drop to his back. He felt the weight of the water against his chest and tried to keep himself from panicking. Turning on his head lamps, he scanned the wall by eye. "Maybe," he said taking the knife out and prying at the rock. "We have something... No idea what it is."

Ronnie swam over to him. "Could be the centuries have covered the opening. Maddison, you're the expert here, what do you think?"

"I'd say you'd need an explosives expert." Maddison said/sang, with her right index finger to her mouth. "Oh! That's right. Hi." She added with what the translator rendered as a bit of a chuckle. "Mister Mangalia, if you'd kindly step back, please."

Maddison withdrew something from her belt, and patiently waited Mangalia's evacuation.

Ronnie and Damion went around the rock outcropping to where they'd be out of the blast area.

While she waited for Maddie to do her thing, she began to examine a glowing sea anemone as it tried to lure a bright green sea worm into its tentacles.

Trent swam up to her. "Beautiful, but i'd keep my distance. When it's this deep and this dark any creature that bright want's to be seen." He cautioned as he pointed at the worm.

Leo swam backwards, still feeling sluggish and shaking his head. "Blow it when ready." Rising a couple of feet, he kept his head lamps on, and looked around. "Hey, what's that?" He muttered, watching an odd fish almost flutter by.

When the debris settled, Ronnie swam back to the opening created by the explosion. A large hole led deep into the cave. She slowly swam in, careful to make sure the cave was safe.

After 20 meters, the new tunnel ended at a wall. "Jackpot."

Sliding into the tunnel, he noticed the new wall and looked at Madison. "Any new under water explodie thingys?" He asked a little tauntingly.

"Keep it up, boy-toy, and I'm likely to add some to your supper." Maddison said, with a flick of her right hand, towards Mangalia. "You don't really think a girl would wander about under sea ruins with only one explosive, do you?"

Maddison scowled at the wall, and did a quick scan, before placing the secondary explosive. "Odd composition, this wall. Going to take a couple of explosions. One to destabilize it's structure, the second to cause it to-" She stopped. She looked over inscriptions on the wall, carefully. Smacking a switch, down below, with a webbed foot, she shrugged, as the wall slid out of the way. "Or we could always ring the doorbell." Maddison added.

"I was going to say, we need to find out what we have here before we blow anything up," Ronnie said. She scanned the symbols and pressed a series of buttons. "That should do it."

A section of wall slid open and water flooded the small compartment. "This is either really good or really bad," Ronnie muttered as she waited for the inner room to fill with water. Then she swam in and began to scan. "Hey, we're in luck. It says something bout closing he doors and flooding or emptying the room. Maybe this is some form of floodable airlock."

"Safe assumption." Maddison said, nodding.

"I'm going in to have a look. Anyone want to come with me?" Ronnie asked.

"Yeah." Trent said after hesitating for a moment. "Before we get too far in here lets tie off a line." He swam a few feet back to the entrance and started looking for something sturdy. Satisfied with what he found, his hands reached down to his side where a small round case was attached and pulled at its tab revealing the glowing line that spooled from it. He quickly tied one end securely to a fallen rock before swimming back to the 'fleetie', glowing green line in tow. "Just in case this turns into a maze, we will need this to find our way out. Besides, it's bad form to go into any confined space without one."

Leo grabbed the TR-114A and brought it to his front. "Isn't that our line about the weapons too Kushner? No, that's never leave home without one." He liked the powderless cartridges, and the fact that it would fire in anything except an active Volcano. And by that time you were toast anyhow.

"Never hurts to be prepared, Captain." The marine smiled.

"Good point," Ronnie said. "Anything else we need?"

Damion looked over to Ronnie. "I'll be right behind you." He said
and then looked over to Leo. "Mangalia, let me get one of those TR-114's. I want to be prepared too." He held his hand out to him and then made sure he was still close to Ronnie, so she didn't leave without him.

Leo looked from Damion, to Trent to Noelle, and somehow kept himself from laughing in the mans face. "You want me to hand you a powderless firing rifle... When we have three Marines that have them... And I haven't seen you pass any of the safety requirements?" Now he couldn't help it, he started laughing, leaning against the wall, and actually crying because he thought it was that funny. "Plus! What am I supposed to do? Magically create one with the fairy wand I have shoved up some orifice?"

"Come on, Damion. We can leave Captain Mangalia out here to play with his magic wand while we go inside and have a look round."
