Physical Description | A smidgen over five feet in height, Penelope is more than used to the guys underneath her in Engineering towering over her, some of whom made the mistake of asserting themselves above her and speaking over her. It was a mistake they made once and only once. If she feels like she is not being shown the respect she deserves, Penelope will find the highest point, lean over the railing, and rally the troops. She may be short in stature and have a petite figure, but her voice can carry when she needs it to. The years she spent on the stage have come in handy in more ways than one. Her piercing gaze can catch some off guard given the peridot green of her technologically aided eyes, ocular implants that have not only gifted her sight but enhanced the spectrum in which she sees. Though she sees differently than an average human does it's the only eyesight she had ever known. To her, this is normal. Heat-detecting infrared capabilities notwithstanding, any sort of enhancement to her vision comes with its setbacks. Electromagnetic interference be it weaponized or a natural occurrence on a planet renders her blinder than a Cardassian Vole. She also experiences headaches commonly. Though she tends to wear her hair consistently in the style of straight and just touching her shoulders, Penelope has been known to change her hair color like the seasons. Sometimes she's blonde, sometimes she's a brunette. Once in a while she's a ginger. Her knack for changing her appearance and devotion to method acting have given her an interesting skill set. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | One does not simply become Chief Engineer of a starship without a lot of hard work, dutiful dedication, and a robust education paired with a variety of experiences. Penelope Bardot-Jannetty is not just smart. Her aperception quotient was tested as a child and was above average for a Human thought not unheard of. She still had a genetic disability of being born blind having to rely on a VISOR as a child into her teen years. Sometimes, she just feels things differently. She a clear and strong sense of self-purpose which has driven her to push herself over barriers, through barricades, and demolish the ceiling if need be. Penelope has for lack of a better term, a sense of entitlement. She always had faith in herself and was determined to become Chief Engineer of a starship. No was never an option even if doors were closed in her face and the path obstructed. Vehemently against the mistreatment of sentient life, she partakes in a dedicated vegetarian diet, even going so far as not to even replicate anything that resembles meat. Some may consider her an odd duck, but even non-sentient life matters to her. If you find her having a deep conversation with a plate of asparagus, she's alright. It is safe to approach her. Penelope strives for smooth sailing, good communication, understanding, and compassion. She adores being around people that value the beliefs that she shares but gets frustrated around people that run contrary to that. She's open to hearing alternative philosophies and differences of opinion, but she won't be converted by pushy people. Always smiling and being radiantly herself, Penelope can be a ray of sunshine: warm, fun-loving, calming, and easy going; however, it is important to remember that the is approximately 5800 degrees Kelvin and is, in fact, a yellow dwarf star, a scorching ball of plasma, hydrogen and helium. She can be as volatile and deadly as she is beautiful. Beneath that peaceful façade breaths an aggressive underside. She can employ a passive-aggressive strike against her rivals and will use underhanded cunningness and manipulation if need be. She can keep this part of herself contained for the most part but push her beyond her breaking point and prepare for Armageddon. Her playfulness, spontaneity, and flirtatiousness often make her a sweetheart to many, but she enjoys gossiping. Laughter is a must around her and her own laughter can be contagious. She has a short attention span however and likes to keep her mind and hands busy. |

Personal History | Born Penelope Bardot, all her friends and relatives simply knew her as “Penny” which has followed her through her teenage years and into adulthood. She was born in Cork County Ireland, but the accent she brandished as a child has long since dissipated into a You’re not from around here reaction from people. Through vocal training and theatre, she had learned to conceal her Irish roots, only having it slip out once in a while when she is around family for an extended period of time or really worked up. She has even gone so far as to change her hair color from her natural reddish-brown to anything from platinum blonde to ravenous black. Though she was born in Ireland, her life has been a thrilling adventure trekking across the galaxy reaching the furthest stretches of Federation space and beyond. They moved from Ireland to the North American continent when Penelope was still young, settling in the salt plains of the west. Her mother, a diplomat in the Federation’s Diplomatic Corps took Penelope and her brother, Sebastian from place to place though it was always nice to just come home. Penelope and Sebastian were always two peas in a pod, and she was the older sister that he needed. He was the little brother that brought out the best in her, and she was always fiercely protective of him. Even from an early age they made a good team and were practically inseparable from one another. Whether it be building blocks, starship model sets, or their grandfather’s antique mechanisms. Penelope was always the one that made the designs or understood how parts and pieces worked. Sebastian, on the other hand, was the dare devil willing to push the boundaries to see how everything withstood. As teenagers, the siblings participated in the Trans-Pacific and the Trans-Atlantic Shuttle Races where a pilot and engineer would take old shuttles and enter races from continents to continents across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. The Bardots were young but had gained recognition for performing well and winning several times with Sebastian as the pilot and Penelope holding things together as the team’s flight engineer. Starfleet was never a question for either of them, it was just a matter of when. Naturally, Penelope, being the eldest, applied the soonest and was accepted. She performed well on her entrance examination. Her little brother followed a few years later though Penelope was the more intellectual and studious of the two of them. Sebastian had of course chosen the most direct path towards command, concentrating on starship operations gearing himself for a long career in flight control and navigation. Penelope studied physics and engineering, finding herself drawn to a much broader S.T.E.M approach to her academics. The science of astrophysics and quantum mechanics, the technology of starship operations, the engineering of structural integrity, and the probability mathematics of quantum equations. As she explains it, it sounds like she studied everything, but really it was just a bunch of closely related courses. Don’t ask her questions about alien civilizations or the biology of creatures although she loves them, she is a master of the technologic. She has zero interest in commanding a starship or leading away teams. Her leadership ends in Engineering. After graduating from Starfleet Academy, Penelope and Sebastian remained in contact but their assignments over the years pulled them in different directions and Penelope found love whereas it took Sebastian some time to find that piece of his life only for it to be torn away from him though not in the same vein as Penelope had to experience. Within the first year of marriage, her husband was killed in the line of duty. It took her several years to heal from that loss, but she is proud of herself for remaining in Starfleet and continuing climbing the ladder Unlike her brother who constantly finds himself in weird situations and has been on the receiving end of more than one stint in the Brig, Penelope has a relatively spotless service record, good conduct, and has received promotions over the years. It has earned her some interesting positions over the years and meetings with individuals that she would not have expected to notice her. She presently serves aboard the USS Calypso as the “Night Shift” Engineer of the watch and Assistant Chief Engineer albeit recent circumstances have placed her in the position of Acting Chief Engineer. She is uncertain how long her appointment to Acting Chief Engineer will be nor does she know how the engineering personnel of Calypso will take the news, but she’s ready to tackle the challenges head on. |
