| Personal History | Born on Vulcan with her mother, Belinda Vo'ek, Laura was raised on the planet. Her mother has no whereabouts of her father and considered him to be missing, causing a strain on her as well as raising Laura. Belinda kept the father's name in secret, deciding not to tell anyone of it. Her mother married a Vulcan, Tomak Tay'ork, whom support the family while Laura was at a young age. At 17, she entered the Vulcan Academy of Science and completed it after 3 years. She enrolled and was accepted into Dachal'ak Observatory as an Astronomy Physicist. She remained there for fifteen years. Having a somewhat curiousity of humans visiting on Vulcan, she looked into applying into Starfleet Academy. Ambassador Spock was one example in history that makes her wonder about going to Earth and exploring the universe. She left Vulcan and entered the Academy at Starfleet when she was 37 years old (after giving a year vacation to be with her mother). She was suppose to attend the Academy for 4 years, but with her knowledge, her curriculum was shorten by a year. She graduated at top 90 percent in her class. At the end of the Academy, she decided nursing school because she wanted to know more about humans. She may not have a good bedside manners, as her classmates told her, but she is Vulcan for a reason. Laura didn't have much luck in learning about compassion, but it was explained that it will take years for a Vulcan to learn it. There are a few that have. After she finished Nursing and Surgical Nursing school, Starfleet placed her to Starfleet Medical Hospital to gain more experience with humans as well as other species. She remained there for 6 years, enough time to study about humans. Her first starship assignment: USS Calypso. |
